not much was happening but there were must of been a thousands of huge pilchards and lots of hoos off the beach.
just so as i got to the surf, i started trolling. nothing.
i did that over an hr by trolling shallow, far out, zig zag, etc.
but nothing happened. later in the morning i trolled to the 400 or 500yrd
mark and thats when i had a hit. it was disgusted to find out
that a shark(1 1/2 or 2)hit the lure. did see a larger shark i dont know...
about 5 feet under it so i goat the shark to the yak for a release and began to troll again.
still staying far out i saw a cobia come to the boat but couldn't throw anything to hit since i was just trolling. anyway, after seeing the cobe i got another hit. it peeled some line off reel and took off with speed. after a short battle the fish ended up
being a bonita around 10lbs. oh yeah i kept it for you know what.
so i put it in the yak and trolled back in. nothing though. i saw more schools of pilchards
below the boat and a school of macks in with them up to 4 or 5lbs. they sure were big
too. oh... got hit on the spoon again but just a small shark.
man these sharks will hit lures trolled behind the boat. i hope next time it aint a hammer
bigger than the yak.
