salt water aquarium

Post by gdm phil »

about 2 weeks ago I picked up a small 8 gallon all in one salt water fish tank for my 2 year old son Mason. I did my 2 week cycle and put my first "nemo" in with some other crabs and snails to work clean up. its pretty cool so far and my son loves it. I feel I can educate him on the ocean by giving him a ocean. I cant wait to take him diving when hes older and have him see nemo in the wild lol. ill snap some pics when the water clears up. I made a new hobby boo boo. I went to do a water change and added fresh water by accident. all fish are well aside from 1 crab lol

I'm just about a month into a 29 gallon standard tank. My first. So far so good. Gotta couple Chromis and Clowns in there, along with 3 Cardinals. First partial water change coming up this week. Wish me luck.

so apparently my ammonia was super high. I had to take most of the water out and re do it. I plan on doing a water change daily of half a gallon or so. on the plus side im starting to get some nice growth out of the algae and I found a star fish hitch hiker in my live rock

rare wrote:That's the problem with the small aquarium the sudden change of temps, water spike via ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc. can wipe you aquarium fast. Having a large aquarium these swings or sudden change dont have a high impact as the smaller aquarium because of the water vol lvls

You buy your saltwater at you LFS or are you making it yourself?
I get those 5 gallon jugs ready to pour.

I figure if I do half a gallon a day I should be good in a week or so
