Going out on the flamingo boat charter next week. info plzzz

Post by e46hoodrich »

ive read a couple reports and topics about the boat,i usually o out on the rewards boat and kelleys fleet boats but its a familly members birthday and were hoping on the boat to catch some lunkers.its going to be a packed boat i will have a party of 11 and the lady from flamingo said theres already another party of 8 and she likes to have no more then 25 people fishing on one side. so i have a couple questions.

1.Can i vertical jig at night? (glow in the dark jigs work?)

2.Am i allowed to vertical jig in the middle of the boat?(just in case i get a bad spot)

3.What rig would be best to send live pilchards to the bottom? best presentation.
i usally use a chiken rig with 4 oz weight and let the line peel out till almost running out then reeling in.want to try something new.

4.Kingfish!! how do i fish for kingfish at night? is it the same as day time? i usually use a 1&1/2 oz white/red feathered jig with a ballyhoo.

Vertical jigs are a pain on a crowded driftboat so I'd say no. For kings use the jig and ballyhoo same as daytime. I don't like live bait at night for snapper as much as I do fresh dead cutbait. Use a leader rig aka fishfinder rig or drift back with a jighead. Ask the mate what's producing. Tough to beat someone who's out there daily telling you their opinion.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Your Mate may be Big Dave he works works nights some, this is very big Guy and his name is Dave G. Let Dave know you know me tell him Tommy A the Boatless fisherman said he would talk straight and ask him your questions.

Let him know I said --- Looky Here and you will get a huge smile. you can also tell him I saw a 75lbder devoured by his friend. He will know what I am talking about.

Thanks guys. i called a little while ago and reserved a spot in the front so i can vertical jig. he told me the night trips are mostlly producing king mackerel.I will have a couple rods.

1 rod on the bottom for snapper /grouper season just opened up :dude:

another rod middle water column for kingfish

and i will also have another rod vertical jigging.

for bait im going to buy frozen silversides, and im going to catch live pilchards before getting on the boat.
so you know if they give squid on the boat?

Am i missing anything?? :reeling:
