Tropical park

Post by dcerdeiras »

Hey.

I'm taking a high school fishing club to go fish at tropical park in a few weeks. Anyone know which of the lakes there is best for catching fish, There are like five lakes there.

It has been years since I have fished there, but the one next to the horse stables has fish feeders and was stocked with bass. I also got some nice largemouth and peacocks on the lake that is right next to the entrance on Miller, especially if you walk around towards the eastern side of the lake.

i use to live down the street and fished there in the afternoons once work was over, all the lakes have fish if one dosnt produce hit the next one, lots of rocks, very little weeds if any, except for the one next to stables this one has feeders from the state, drag a worm for large mouth,(be prepared to lose some terminal tackel)minnow imitation for peacocks, wade out to the drop off,(10-15 ft) then cast out,try to put them back for another day and please post w/ pics-we are waiting!TIGHT LINES :happyfisherman:

Thanks for the fast replies. I'll be sure to test these spots and let you know how it goes in a few weeks. By the way, Rare, how do those banjo minnows work for you. I tried some but didn't get much fish off them.

Get a couple dozen shiners and fish them under a cork, you should catch some fish.

if you do decide to take the easy way out use circle hooks please,j-hooks and shiners are a deadly combo, you will gut hook almost every fish , this fishery hasnt been exploited by many that know how to fish,we who fish there would like to continue to catch some, ive caught many bass on worms and seen some big ones caught, all on rubber,no need for the added expense.tight lines :happyfisherman:

*LOL*

I never bought into that...I was just playing with PP since he did buy the Banjo. Go to
Complete angler fishing supply -6827 Bird Road. They have shinners there- get the big ones... If they don't have them there go to Kendall bait and tackle- 9402 South Dixie Highway
the old man is cool- at first he is not...but he is okay. They have shinners there as well. again get the big ones...

Careful with the damn birds as they will dive when you got them under a cork...
Kendall Bait and Tackle is my first choice, but thanks for telling me about the other place just in case.
Yeah, Banjo has a good concept, but I can never seem to catch much on them.

Yeah there are some big moccasins there especially in the areas that aren't mowed and off the beaten path.

as for big snakes, ive seen a couple huge snake skins that were way too big to be moccasins. they had to be big pythons, and i mean big.

also, just incase you want somewhere closer to get shiners, i saw the fishing line opened back up in a new location, its in the small shopping center by the sex shop across the street from bird bowl

good luck, the kids will have a blast catching fish out there.

I just saw that fishing line relocated as I was driving down bird today. As for the snake skins, they are stretched out when they come off making it seems the snake was twice as big.

i left work early and had my rod in the car as usual. Traffic was awfull so i pulled over to tropical park around 6ish.

i tried the lake next to the stables but i didn't get anything. As i was leaving i was going to try the lake next to miller and this cop pulled over next to my car and we talked for a bit.

He "warned" me of how contaminated the lakes were and that it wasn't even good for people to be close to it. He even venture to say that police are not allowed to go into that water, .... not sure what he meant with that.

Has anyone cached anything there lately ? and if so are the fish really that contaminated ? just wondering.

thanks

Finnaly got the club there and we did great. Mostly sunfish and cichlids, but they were new to the sport so they had a blast. Didn't have much luck with bass, so the shiners went to waste, but it was a good thing I brought night-crawlers. One of our kids caught a good sized Mayan cichlid, about ten inches. I've got a few pics, but I need to see if I can get permission from the school first (Very strict on sharing school related pics over the internet). Defiantly a place to come back to, maybe in evening for catfish.

Glad you all had a lot of fun. My dad used to fish Tropical Park for bass just about everyday. He always fished plastic worms and rarely got skunked. Give them a try next time.
