Sanibel beach fishing?

Post by bookworm »

I'll be on Sanibel in early August. I understand snook can be caught by walking the beach and casting parallel to it in the early morning. Am I too late in the season for this kind of action?

I am fairly new to the area, but i think the action in the early AM should be great.
Fish like its the last cast you will ever make.

Thanks, hope you're right. I'll post a report--if I have anything to report!

I would also recommend doing the same about an hour before sunset. Typically i use a 3/4 oz gold spoon when I fish the beach for snook down in marco island.

Well, I have a report...sort of. I walked the beach along West Gulf Road from 7-9 a.m. two mornings last week. Water was a bit murky and stirred up. Saw no snook at all in that area. First morning, caught what I think is a ladyfish. Second morning caught a spotted sea trout. Had a couple others break off. Probably sea trout also. Also fished for an hour around Lighthouse Point later one morning. Saw one small snook at the bottom of a swell but couldn't get it to hit my fly. Hope to be back again in the fall.
