freshwater tarpon/snook

Post by GET THE NET!!!! »

8) Went down to our little freshwater spot on sunday to see if we could jump a few poons. Brendon hooked up on the first fish which by the looks of it seemed to be a big snook, it quickly wrapped brendon in a pilling and just like that he was gone. Bryan hooked up next to a small snook that he landed which happened to be a fat snook. Then bryan got another small snook. I then hooked a fish which I though was gonna be a nice snook which ended up being a decent bass. I then hooked up to a very large tarpon for in there in the 15-20lb range and faught him with a real loose drag for around 5 mins and he wound up braking my 10lb braid anyway. A couple of seconds after bryan hooks about a 10lb tarpon and it breaks him off too. Bryan caught another snook under the bridge. I come up out of the bridge and onto the bank to fly fish I put out a rod with a live bait in the middle of the canal while fly fishing, something hits my live bait so I run over and start to fight it and its another 10-15lb tarpon he made short work of my 6lb mono and broke me around a pilling. I keep fly fishing and sure enough I hooked a small tarpon on fly (my first) it was awesome but he wound up spitting me on the second jump. I had 2 more hits on fly after that but couldn't get a hookup after that we went home.

You guys have the snook on lockdown. Great report as usual.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Nice work on the snook.

8) They're around. Have to look for the Snook. They will get more solid as time goes by. The Tarpon are around, mostly at the end where the bait is. I'd like to see them start cruising the sand more. The ones I've seen down there haven't been in the mating mode yet. Just singles.

8) Just hope for west/northwest winds once it gets south of the Keys.
I'm just taking it as it goes. Hopefully it stays offshore and dissolves at some point in the central Atlantic.
