Re: Peacock fishing tips
Best time is as long the sun is up.. The brighter the better. They will be cruising the shallows, near the drop offs.. Sometimes they may be on the ledge of drop offs. If you see two peacocks sitting in one aera that means there spawning and or guarding a nest. They will hit just about n e thing when there spawning beacuse there guarding there eggs. Do not catch more than 1 off a nest!! U can catch one and the other will still guard it. If u catch both they will not return to the nest and other fish are usually near by waiting to eat the eggs.
A bright buck tail , crappy jig ( white) , small top waters , anything bright will work. They are very aggressive feeders and they like flashy baits. If u use live bait use shiners , oscars , any small fish. Use small bright clausers patterns or small bait fish if u go on fly.. Peacocks are awesome on fly!! As far as where to go , everywhere !!! They are infested in all the lakes and waterways down here , u can pretty much go to any lake and find them.. Man made lakes are usually better than natural lakes beacuse the communities usually stock the lakes with peas..
Good luck!!!

I've caught most of my peacocks on either rapalas (mainly x-raps) and jigs working dropoffs.

Thanks everyone for the tips.. I fished for about two hours in the blue lagoon area and caught my first cichlid and bass.. I saw a few peacocks spawning since they were close to the shore but didn't go after the lure and were not active.. I was fishing with a Rapala bx minnow..I will try next time with live bait hopefully shiners..ill let you guys know how it goes

Re: Peacock fishing tips
peacock fishing is seriously addicting and I cannot stop fishing for them, I wrote a very informative article under the fly fishing section that covers how to catch peacocks on the fly rod, in case you go in that direction!!
There's no such thing as too much bait!!

Re: Peacock fishing tips
If you can't catch nesting Peacock bass you might as well pack it in and try another activity, there is not even any sport or pride in it, easier than shooting fish in a barrel with grenades.
You could walk to the bank near a nest, take a wizz and a Peacock bass will jump up and grab yer pecker, its just that easy.

I'm not a big peacockater ,lol .. But I think nesting fish fight less in general .. I fiqure cuz there beat from guarding it and lack of rest.. But then again I don't really mess with nesting fish. But everyone needs to start some were!
