Surf fishing

Post by BoatlessFisherman »

Hello
Yes, People do Surf Fish, not as intense as the North but you will find areas that are better like Melbourne Area, Hobe Sound with many more fishing. I do well in Fort Lauderdale Beach and Boynton Area.

As to the Legality;

Surf Fishing is legal in Florida, Law is Here this is a right to fish State, but some Cities have ordinances that forbid fishing and you will be cited if you are above the High tide mark. If you are below you have not violated any laws and it will be thrown out in most cases, as long as common sense was used and you did not try to fish where people are swimming and so on.

The High tide Line is the boundary of State water so City and County Law are superceded by State Law this is how I understand it but the almighty dollar creates the hassle because some people think they own everything.

I know of a few cases here in South Florida that got tossed out but they were still a big hassle.

So in Conclusion
My rule of thumb is Fish where there are no people and if it is a Public beach fish off hours and make sure you park legally.

I have never had a problem in my life.

I Fish:
Early Mornings ie. 5:00am to 8 or 9
Early Evenings ie. 5:00pm until ......

Fort Lauderdale Beach Off Hours Early Mornings and Evenings
Fort Lauderdale Beach from North end to Oakland Parl Blvd All hours there are 3 parking areas along the back road that runs the beach.

Lauderdale by the sea - Hassle Zone!

Pompano Beach some areas by pier Hassle zone
Areas by Inlet Ok to fish I have not had a problem.

Dania Beach and Hollywood Beach OK on off Hours

This site may give you some more info http://www.inshore.com/sefloridabeach.htm#BROWARD

I would suggest taking a light rod out with some jigs and Lures, etc and taking a ride from Boynton Inlet and head back south to fort laderdale on A1A Ocean Blvd and scoping the beaches and Inlets, check the main site locations for some areas and you will find many on your ride.

If you want to go to a specific area like North Palm beach let us know and I will supply some locations for each area you are planning on fishing.

Lets us know how the fishing is here in the forum report area.
Thanks B.F.
