Do it yourself Mag conversion.....

Post by screamendrag »

I did this awhile ago for one of the other fishing sited i frequent and figured the new thread was a perfect place to put it up cause its a pretty cool project....

the reel i used was an el cheapo 30$ walmart reel cause at the time there was no way i was gunna try this on one of my good reels :D

ok here goes....these are your parts which can all be found in lowes in the hardware section for about 2 bucks.

ok so now you have the whole mag setup and it should look like this...
Image
The mags you see at the end of the screw are rare earth magnets which can be found at radio shack.

Now you need to drill a hole in your sideplate...put alittle time into this one to make sure its somewhere where it wont be in your way on a high powered cast...

Heres the whole assembly installed on the sideplate of the reel..

Heres your final product, a fully adjustable mag system.....with this reel i can throw 4 ounces as hard as i can and i will never ever backlash

well hoped you guys liked it....it was definitly a cool project and its cool to see something you make work so well on a reel

Thanks scream. I've been wanting to try this on one of my reels for a while now just didn't know how to do it.
Sad to be sitting out this years Shorebound Shark Tourney due to work issues. Good luck to all that participate!!!

That looks pretty easy. Is it as simple as it looks?

Interesting... will it work on just about any conventional? Them older penns are pretty cheap and thus magging them seems smart... then u can place that 6 oz and let er rip!

yea but it has to have a aluminum spool in order for the laws of physics to take effect :D

Its crazy the amount of brakes you can put on a reel with magnets....i had this one to the point where it felt almost seized up when i would cast like 2oz...one of the coolest things to mess around with on a reel :D
