Yes, 7'2. Talk to the guys to show you how to get it to what length you want it.

I am thinking of three blanks below for three sticks...

Two Gators:
MH GATOR T90XH Bottom Rod Rod Blank: 9.0', 20-50LB, moderate, 14tip(5.6mm)/0.95butt,14.6oz
MH GATOR KC50-86 IGFA Regulation Rod Blank: 7'2", 50LB, moderate, 18tip(7mm)/1.02butt, 13.4oz
KC-50-86 will be extended to around 9.0"

One Calstar:
Calstar E-Glass Rod Blank 550-B : 9.0', 20-80LB, 10tip(4mm)/1.04butt, 19.33oz

Calstar is heaviest...

THX PB

I plan to get all three as I am gonna build three rods for this time so I will need three blanks...using $1 twisted wire SS guides.

I found these guides on ebay... I think these are better than snake guides.

THX... I don't want to build a rod to replace guide in 2-3 years...

What about this guide, non-fouling twister guides?

So you are going to ruin that rod by trying to extend it 2 ft

K, I will bring the 2 KC rods i have so you can understand what we mean when we say heavy. Again this is not a good option for casting-

When I extended rares rod to 9'2" the extension was by 2' but you have to consider what you need for overlapping. In other words how many inch you want to stick lmao.

Then consider all the epoxy to get it nice and tight. Then you might have to build up a little where the insert meets the blank so you get a smooth under for the rear grip.

All that will basically add half the weight of a blank to it,

Sure rare rod can handle a whole lot cuz it is just like a towing bar but casting is a bit(h.

Extending has to be done right. I used a whole foot for the overlap. In other words the extension piece was 3' for a 2' extension.

Rammed a whole foot but it sure is tight.

God I love these extension threads. So nasty lmao

THX STRIZ... I am sure Germany can be so cold now...lol

What material was the 3' extension piece made of?
I am thinking some sort of carbon-fiber tube...

BTW, the rod I am building from KC blank won't be a casting rod...but perhaps one of bridge sticks that may toss crab into pylons. I want to handle 1 LB weight and bait toward opposite current. At last trip, Rare taught me how to fight big fish under CH2 bridge toward drive bridge ...I concluded none of my 8 - 11 ft rods has enough backbone... I sort of read why Rare is proposing this blank...

Two other blanks will be for casting. I am waiting for answer from Calstar.

I did it the most easy way. I used another KC 5086

You can also use any other fiber blank. Could be a banged up rod that if the right diameter can be used.

I would just use the same material.
Some use wooden dowels but thats bs imo

I have a few banged-up rods...

BTW, what guide arrangement do your recommend for casting rod using those two other blanks?
Available guide sizes from Mudhole are 20,18,15,13,11,9,7,and 6.

Question I have is do I need bigger guides on tip sides for casting rod than for bottom fish rod?
For bottom-fishing boat rod, I used ...8, 8, 8 and top. But 8 maybe too small for cast...
So for casting rod, I am thinking 20, 20, 18, 15, 13, 11, 11, 9 and top for casting rod in order to minimize line friction during cast.

OK, here is my current plan for KC blank rare gave me.

I have a tip-broken penn power stick (I had 20 years but never liked it much).
I want to use this penn stick as extender for KC.
KC and broken penn.JPG
I think I can cut last 3' of penn stick and insert a foot to inside of KC...
I am thinking of wrapping fiber tape around penn so that it makes a good contact when epoxy is applied...
This will extend the blank.

I install reel seat on the end of KC to minimize pressure to penn stick..
Reel seat will be 2' from butt.

I will have to clean up penn stick by removing eva form and locking cap and nut parts of reel seat so I can insert new eva form,
and I will also have to cut out butt cap and install new one.

He knows his stuff when it comes to modifying blanks, many years ago he built a calstar shark blank (extended butt) for me..I fished locked down drag on some crazy beast including a 400+ Goliath grouper that I yanked off the bottom in the tortugas on a boatless forum trip and that rod lasted thru EVERYTHING! So ask away and take notes....but be ready he does not sugar coat his answers lol.
That rod and fish are impressive :toast:
