SHARK FISHING SOUTH BEACH?

Post by slobslayer »

Hey guys and girls,
I live close to cutler ridge so going up to sebastian inlet and west palm beach area is quit the long haul! Does anyone know where you can fish for sharks during the day and at night closer to the south beach area? If i understand correctly you can fish where there are no lifeguards. Is this true? obviously not where people are swimming also. Dont want your sweet spots just some places to try. Want to try to get out there this week and test my new gear i got. I've only fished bridges and piers so this is a new endeavor for me.
Thanks alot for any and all help,
Carlos

if you're going to do it during the day, do it away from people in general. not just swimmers.

South Beach area City Ordinance does not allow fishing from the beach. Many do so at night when the life guards leave, Police won't bother you unless someone complains. So be on your best behavior when you go and make sure you pick up all the trash and do not leave bait on the beach or you will close your chance at going there again. By the way the buoys are very close to each other and you will have to kayak out farther than 300 yards, they replenish the beach constantly so any rocks or signs of grass or reef is far out.

Thanks for the advice guys. i actually went looking this weekend for a spot on the beach and its almost impossible until.... tadaaaa i met the head security guard from one of the buildings out there. he saw me and my buddy with fishing gear and started asking us questions. Before you know it he's telling us that right behind his building there are no lifeguards and as long as we give him a call before hand, he would let us fish right from the back of his building. So now im left with how the hell is a 280 lb guy gonna get a bait out far enough. I tried the kayak thing and boy was that a spectacle.couldn't make it 5 feet in that thing. Spent more time flipping over than on top of it   Anyone got any other ideas?

I used to be 275 and got used to it. I dropped 20 pounds just kayaking and dropping baits from the beaches and Flamingo. You need to make sure the kayak you use can hold your weight. Something like a Ocean Kayak is great, I could sit sideways on one. If not then you will limit your self to fishing for blacktips with a surf rod. Casting baits the size of a palm or evne smaller will work no problem. Don't do what some others and my self do at times, walk your bait into the gut of the beach (right before the sand bar or after the sand bar, where you body is waist deep). That is jut crazy so don't do it. Get used to the kayak.

Gotcha! What about a canoe? you think a canoe will work? I realized that the kayak we were using was really a shallow platform compared to the ocean kayak you mentioned. It didnt even compare in depth. It was probably only 8 or 10 inches tall. I figured maybe a canoe. Whaddaya think? I just dont have 1000.00 to go buy a kayak right now.

That would only work on a flat calm day and zero waves on the wash. If you want to get into this sport you will have to:

1- invest on a used kayak, they go anywhere from $150.00 to $500.00.
2- Invest on a surf rod/reel that can handle it.

Both will be above expensive. Another alternative is to find someone that will be willing to share a kayak while you both shark fish.
