Not my report, which is why I'm posting it here, but my buddy in pensecola called me today to tell me about it. It's an absolutely nuts story, especially when he talks about how he walks out to neck deep water while it's still alive to get a tail rope, it's a shame they had to kill it, but all the meat was put to use so I have no problem with it, and I'm not too sure I'd be eager to walk out a 700lb mako. Here's the link, enjoy.

A once in a lifetime catch . I know they get makos in the Gulf shallow when they come in to feed on the spawning redfish.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I saw quite a few of them in Fiji at about 140 feet down in a cut in the reef. they call them blue whalers there. Awsome fish!
Nice Boat! Now get it outa my driveway!

I agree, but at least makos have excellent food value, and they say a number of times in the thread that the meat is being well used. As opposed to the bull shark thread above where it is doubtful anything besides the jaws and fins will be kept.
