Curious about different peoples takes on fishing the new river. Not looking for specific honey holes(if they even exist) but more just general information. The area I'm looking to fish is from the east side of 441 all the way past 95 a ways. Looking for snook, jacks and maybe some tarpon mostly. I've seen so many fishing shows with guys just tossing doa glow shrimps under docks and hooking up with snook and sometimes a tarpon. I have my kayak so getting around isn't a problem, just looking for somewhere really close I can put in and catch some fish on days I can't spend the whole day fishing.
Bottom line: is there a decent amount of fish to be caught through out this area?

I've pointed you in this area before.. 30th ave ramp launch or where Lc mentioned across form the scrap yard.. go with the tide's, teh bridge over Griffin many a good Snook has been caught there, and just NW of there is a half built marina.. those docks look good.
And I'd bet behind the Rustic Inn could hold some resident Tarpon
But I doubt you've seen any of those fishing show guys in that area.
Now a couple of those canals within paddling distance from Pelican at night might be profitable.

Some live shrimp or DOA shrimp fished around those bridges at high tide will produce a lot of smaller snook, tarpon, and ladyfish. This time of year a big mullet or ladyfish freelined in the shadows will produce some huge snook on heavy tackle. Youwon't catch a lot of slot fish but then again I wouldn't eat anything from that area anyways. Shrimp or arties for action and numbers mullet or ladyfish for trophy fish.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Awesome, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the reminder krash, I actually didn't even see the 30th street launch and was looking at another spot that was farther away. Can't really spot the half built marina on the google earth unless you mean the docks just north of griffin road bridge that are empty but either way I'm sure I'll paddle around and find it. Thanks for the bait tips fishinfool. Been trying to just go artificials for time constraints but I might have to get some mullet out here. Potential job at the cheesecake factory coming up so between work and school my time will be very limited, kinda cutting pelican harbor out of the equation for a while. This spot should do.
