It sucked that the Tarpon died. Did you try driving the boat forward to allow water to pass thru it's gills? From my experience it usually take a long time reviving a fish after a long fight. Sometimes it seems it not worth it but after 10 minutes it starts to kick.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Good job. You did all you could & obviously put effort into trying to save him/her. :toast:
As in the fight time & tackle, along with the photo....I'd say 50 pounds @ the most. Thats my guess.

That sucks but that is fishing. Have you thought of taking off the lead treble hook and replacing the trailer with a single hook of larger size? I know that there are people using large circles on plugs for tarpon. This might help to avoid this problem in the future.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

C.J. wrote:I seen a bunch of tarpon rolling on the surface, so i broke out the yuzuri and trolled it around the intercostal and got slammed. I fought the poon on 10# setup for atleast 45 mins till we got him boat side and realized the lure was hooked in its throat and probable would survive if we cut the line, so gaffed his mouth and cutt back trebles and got all the metal out of his mouth and tryed to revive it with no succes. It sucked seeing it die and all but im sure it would of died if i left the lure in it anyways. It was mixed emotions about the catch but what can you do.

BTW anyone want to guess on the weight?

when you fight a fish for so long, sometimes the fish cant regain enough strength to swim off as u already kno. it is not always due to deep hooked.

anyway, the poon looks to be around 40 or 50lb. still a nice inter-coastal fish.

It does suck to here the fish didn't make it... but that is fishing :clown:
I'm just curious as to know if you were targeting Tarpon?
Unless it was a surprise random catch, I'd suggest using 5/0 circle hooks next time. Just my $0.02 :study:
Plus I'm guessing it was 45lbs. When do we get the answer?
