05-21-09 Back from Bimini

Post by StyngRay »

Almost one week on the ocean, I finally returned from Bimini a couple days ago and had the time of my life. We were fortunate to haul back approx. 1500lbs of Red and Mutton Snapper. Mixed in were several dozen or so 30lb Kingfish, Spanish Macs & Ceros and Bonito. Plenty of by-catch too including Cudas, Sharks and Triggerfish to name a few. Overall, if I had to do it again as tired as I am, I'd leave right now. I honestly earned my sea legs. Here's a funny story, I was so dizzy from being on a boat for so long, that I almost slipped and broke my head open when I closed my eyes in the shower.
Ok, enough about Bimini.

Also, as of this morning 5:30am-noon. We went fishing 3-5 miles offshore from Baker's Haulover in 100ft.
Landed approx. 125lbs of Kingfish, half a dozen Bonito and hooked into three Sailfish. It rained hard for about an hour.

Here's a picture the captain snapped of some by-catch from this morning taken with Gordon and myself.
This Sailfish swam around the boat three times for 20 minutes before Gordon helped me land and safely released it. May Full Moon Run in effect.

Awesome way to spend a week. You lucky bastard. Glad you had fun and came back safe. Were the seas rough at any point?

Since winds were blowing 15-20mph throughout the week, it made for rough conditions.
There were several moments I shared my conch salad with the fish. :pukel:

Got off the boat, walked along the dock, and promptly fell off in to the water....Glad you're back in 1 piece.
It's funny how often feet can slip on dry land.
We should all have plenty of scars and laughs to go with them. :eye:
