Learn from my mistakes

Post by WhoDey »

Things I learned tonight:

1) Don't choke the engine to start it after its been running for over an hour. Your engine does not like this.
2) Don't Squeeze the primer ball 2343342234 times thinking your engine is fuel starved. This creates niagra falls in your cylinders.
3) Don't crank your only battery dead while the cylinders have 3 gallons of fuel in them each, not being patient enough to let them drain.
4) Always listen to the man that sold you the boat when he tells you to replace the starting battery soon and put in the aux. batteries. (yes I was supposed to be running 3 batteries)

The above can lead to a long and adventurous night of tying your boat off to a strangers dock & calling cabs to take you to walmart to buy 3 proper marine batteries at 3am.

Dude, that suck ass. Atleast you made it back home safely. This is all a learning experience. Kept at it, it will take some time to know your boat.

I am glad you see it just like I do, nothing seems to come easy, but I can bet you those mistakes never happen again.

Rob, for a person who used to race professional sailboats you like to be on land a lot.

Sorry to go off topic.

Sort out all your mistakes before I buy my boat. I'm taking notes. Don't want to end up crashing to Anglins trying to show off my SeaVee. :D

A few grovers, but we only went outside the inlet for about 30 minutes. Was glass flat, but we were looking for snook in the ICW. The one spot I got us to that normally produces for me was grunt infested

whodey another advise always when you start the boat, put the battery swicht on all dont use the swicht while the boat is running. batteries could blow up when you stop to fish engine off swicht one battery for lights bilge pump livewell.every so often charge batteries with a deep cycle charger dont think outboard can fully charge batteries.

You forgot the biggest leason you have learned. Don't wear your Jesus sandals to the Cleanups.

anyway, think positive, now you're also aware which are the cables to connect to the new battery

no big deal, s**t happens, only problem was that yesterday at the boat show I started acting like a zombie after 4 hours of walking
Yeah that was a horrible thing to put you though dude, sorry again. Hopefully we can have a better 2nd trip sometime soon. I am going to spend some time scouting the new river looking for any signs of life.

You are right I forgot about the cables. I was so stressed that I was not even seeing straight anymore.

By the way, Ricky you have the patience of a saint dude, I don't know how you keep your cool like that when I was probably being a bit of a jackass.

 Yeah Jesus sandals are going to be reserved for the beach and fishing, not for climbing over rocks this time around.

SeaTow account is active now. 140pd thrust electric motor will be reinstalled by next weekend along with the 24volts of juice to run it. I wont be without options ever again. :D

I have been in alot of those types of situations in the past. Only thing to do is stay cool and calm. Oh yeah that is easy to say and I usually stay calm but panick like a mofo in my head. Last time I was stuck with my buddy way out in the keys, rough seas, and we were tied to a bouy just getting shakin up like a salt shaker. He ended up pulling out some rope to quick start the engine. Good luck Rob and if you ever need a hand or just need to take someone fishing call me :biglaugh:
I dream of a better tomorrow... where chickens can cross roads and not have their motives questioned

Your right, poop happens, learn from it and move on. I learned that a single engine boat doesn't do well in the Gulfstream when the only motor on board is broke down. That was an experience. Now I have a "kicker" motor on board no matter if there is 20 engines on the boat or not. I will not have that happen again. And yes, SeaTow is my your best friend, Never leave the dock without it. Best $150 you will ever spend in your life.
