1/25 kings and african

Post by gdm phil »

Well usualy trip sunday, Migs myself and 2 guys from work headed out on this brisk sunday morn. We broke the inlet at about 630. Although the report called for 1 ft seas offshore was messy. 3-5 rollers and choppy with strong winds. Before we left the dock my fish finder decided to crap out on us. I had to rely on my navionics app on my phone, which worked out.

We get to the wreck and drop in I start jigging and im on immediately. 8# AJ im guessing, he goes back for a fight another day. they was decent a lot of cut offs. We caught 3 kings and a nice African pomp. we also came across my nemesis at the wreck again. I hooked into him with the jig and he wasn't happy. Now with a fresh reel and 2 speed working I though we had him. Mid way into the fight I handed it over to Miguel to give the shoulder a rest. If anyone has jigged with me you know I jig hard and non stop. Migs puts it to works and starts making ground. A freak wave comes and puts to much stress on the line and my main line broke. time to upgrade to 100#. All in all a great cold day with numerous hits and cut offs. there are some vids I just have to figure out how to get them off facebook.

don't sleep on the trips guys we have a lot of fun and I only ask to split bait and ice.

I gotta make the drive up there and get on one of these trips with you...
So do you like the navionics app? I have it too and seems pretty accurate but I just can't fathom these people marking spots for the entire public to see lol. I went to one of my lobster spots earlier this year only to find it was already marked for lobster :nilly: but I guess the people have a hard time finding it still cuz it was loaded. For fishing it seems pretty good too but the fish move a lot, easy to tell when a party boat takes me to a shitty public spot lol

For the most part it was spot on . I did put my own coordinates in though. Was I over it? No way to be sure. Think I was though

Good I'm glad someone else thinks it's spot on too..main reason I got it was for shore fishing cuz it's the only good chart I found that gives depth and sonar right up to the piers, bridges, and beaches but it worked just as good when I made it offshore too but yea for deeper spots ull never know what your on but if your catching fish who cares what your over lol

I stick to what I know out there. We moved south a bit looking for bull shark alley. The sonar would have helped alot

Good job on sticking it out with the shitty conditions :toast: . We went out today too, and it was nasty out there. We made a few drifts out deep, but ended up spending our day fishing the patches to get out of the crappy conditions. Seas really laid down midday though. Again, good job

The morning was sloppy wet and cold once the fun came out it was better. It's always fun looking at a wall of water rolling your way lol

Yea my major spots down where I am I could almost get to by memory lol...I think bull shark alley is marked on navionics just not by that exact name.
