What's been Working...
Figured I'd throw this post up. What has been working for me is:
1. Floating Rattling Rapala
2. Zara Spook Jr. - I like the bill dance series
3. Pop'n Image - Bill dance series- My new favorite top water bait, holly crap!!!
I've mainly been using the Pop'n Image from 7am - 12pm with great results. I've been getting hits/catches from both large mouth AND pea's!!! I use the 3 1/2'' 3/8oz I just purchased 2 more and decided I'm going to also pick up the bull frog one this weekend!!!
Old reliable
1. Spinner baits and worms always work.
I picked up the new booyaa chatter bait but I haven't used it yet. I'm on a top water kick as they have just been hitting so hard lately!!!

John, I will give you a holla one day for sure. I am in the area of Pine Ridge and drive by Cypress Head every day. I bought an R-1 from a kid there a few years back and fished that lake a few times afterwards. It is Truly Legendary as far as the size of the average Bass caught. I hope it stays hard to get to for a long time !

If I just hit the canals and local lakes/pond, should I be able to find some LM and Peas? On top of the saltwater, I want to do some freshwater fishing for bass and peas. When not fishing for salmon, trout, pike, and walleyes up in MI, I bass fish all the time. My PB is a 7.3 lb LM, which is HUGE for MI standards.

Topwater is always good it seems. It's my favorite and I use it all the time. 2nd Is anything floater that sinks (2-3ft maybe 4 don't like the deep sinkers). I don't really like any sinkers because I typically get all tied up and snagged. I have 2 sinkers - a spinner bait which always catches fish and a clatter bait (Bo - yaa bait). I don't let them sink much and reel them in at a decent pace. I haven't tried the bo - yaa yet but it looked awesome on bill dance's show.
My lake is well protected and will be for years. Old rich people don't like people fishing on their lawn LOL. I live here and still they say things... There was a time before the gaurd gate was put up that people would come and rape (yes rape) the bass from the lake. I remember around the age of 15 that I walked up to the dock and saw 4 GIANT coolers FILLED with bass. Believe it or not I stopped fishing my lake for awhile because it wasn't that good. The Bass have made a MAJOR come back and are back in force. It's back to the 2-3lb min size. Pea's are breeding like crazy, I must of watched newborn baby pea's swim by the 100's with the adults just showing them the way.
Cookin I have a gsxr 1000 06' maybe we should ride sometime also :-)
I have what I call bass thumb, you get this from a good days bass fishing. No matter how tight you hold the lip they still give a big shake and those teeth tear you up.
I may have to try those zoom frogs. I need to get back to bass pro because they have a pop'n image that looks like a bull frog and I want it...lol I'll have 3 of those then.
Frog: I'm sure you'll be able to find them. I personally am not a good one to tell you where to find them as most of my fishing has been at my lake, I was lucky enough to grow up here. I am however starting to travel and try new spots. The reason I wanted to do some Fly Fishing for pea's and such was because I could use a popper and have tons of fun. BTW I want your friggen rod everytime I see it, it's just sick the cork is awesome!!!

Yea, I want to definitely try topwater for bass and peas when I get there. The only problem is finding the fish. I guess I'll just have do some exploring myself!
I know, my friend turned that custom grip for me on his Lamar mandrel and lathe. But that's a 4wt I use for trout, so I probably won't be bringing it to FL.

What kinds of rods and reels do you have?
I have a Cabela's CSR3 that I'll be bringing. I busted my Van Staal reel and my Scierra reel while salmon fishing in Oct. I dropped both of them by accident, and they busted. I was lucky the rods didn't break. My Ross reels are all chuck-n-duck (no flyline) so I won't be bringing those.
Since it was in Oct, I haven't upgraded yet. I'm looking at the Scierra or Danielsson. I like the TIbors and Nautilius, but those are a tad too pricey (especially the Tibors!) If I had my way, I would get the Hardy Angel Featherweight. God, I love that reel!

Well was at bass pro today. The hooks on my lures just aren't holding up, one of them has a snake in it lol. Catching alot of fish really kills the hooks. I purchased these awesome japanese hooks that are supposed to be sick, very pricy. Also purchased some HT'S!!! I picked up the watermelon ones and I know just the spot I want to try them at!!! (Hint Hint near a golf course with lots of lilly's). Also picked up a new pop'n image (that makes 3) that looks like a bull frog.
I just looked at my reble on my rod and it's missing the first treble hook, darn pea's were hitting REAL hard!!! Purchased some japanese trebles also to try out supposedly doesn't get any better.
I'm going to be on the look out for a new reel. Mine's around 12yrs old and I'm having some probs with it. Time to find a good spinner for around $200.

I'm pretty picky with my gear. I know I could go cheaper but I don't. You get what you pay for and I want to atleast get midrange stuff. I've learned that if you buy good stuff and take care of it, it lasts. My current reel needs to be serviced (where is that darn manual). The reel is also around 12 yrs old and I've NEVER had a problem with it untill now. I'm trying to keep it as an excuse to upgrade LOL.
I'm currently looking at Shimano Sustain and Stratic Reels just not sure which one to get. I'm going to be mainly bass fishing but once I get my little 12ft Jon boat going I'll be doing some Inshore also so I need some decent stuff.

The Shimano Sedona is also a sweet reel. That's the one I use. Heck, any Shimano is good.
Hey John, were those Gamakatsu hooks that you bought? If so, those are the best hooks I've used (except in regards to fly hooks). Gamakatsu and Lazer Sharp are the best hooks on the market.
I replace the factory hooks on a lot of my lures. For many lures, I replace the rear treble with a feathered treble. I also use the extra wide gap trebles or the EWG trebles on some lures for better hookup ratios:

Barbless trebles are also a good option!

Gamakatsu are the ones I purchased. I got the #4 oversized worm hooks for the bass assins and the zoom HT and I'll probably try them on my worms to. I'm not sure if the trebles are Gamakatsu or Owner but it's one or the other. The worm hooks are Red, if I like them I'll be getting the 25 pack (frecken $15) they are all black. The only other hooks I have (I mainly use lures) are Lazer Sharp #4 worm hooks. I have been using those with great results but I'm going to try these others. I think the over sized worm hooks are going to work better.
I don't really have a problem with hooking up or the fish spitting out the bait much believe it or not. LOL I set the hook like I'm catching a Marlin.
I do however like the trebles with the feathers on them! Just wish you could get them from Gamakatsu or Owner.
I'll have to take a look at that reel. Still not sure which one I'll get.

I just gotta spend the extra cash to get the midrange quality stuff. My last reel lasted approx 12yrs and it'll still work fine once I break it down (hopefully). Honestly, I beat the reel up in my childhood years. I'm just looking for a reason to upgrade really lol.
The other thing is I have a bran new rod/Curado 200DPV bait caster that I get for christmas. I'll probably forget the idea of a spinning rod for awhile once I get that beautie. I've always wanted a bait caster and this will be my first one.
Next time I'm at Bass Pro I'm going to look for the feather trebles, LOL every lure I own is about to get a nice little tail haha.

I left at about 6pm I think I was there an hr. I was the one in the Bright Orange shorts with my 3yr old little girl. I think I may have spoken to Bryan before, if it was him he showed me how to tie a liter for snook/tarpon.
I'm more-so looking at the $200 range reels, not under. I think that the reels in that $199 price range or slightly over are just really nice quality.
Been doing some Reading on the Diawa Sol (hate the diawa feels the need to put all this color into their new reels lol I like them traditional black, gold, silver...)
As for Shimano I don't know which one I'd get. Maybe leaning more towards the sustain? Like a review I read kinda want more then the stratic but won't dish out the mula for the Stella - wow what a reel.
Who knows I gotta look into it more/get some more advice.
