Grass Carp ~ What have "you" caught them on?

Post by grassiegetter »

I've read lots of information on the net but I'm interested to hear what you caught them on. Thanks for any replies.

Bread, dough balls, corn, the berries from the ficus trees.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Take it from the Crap Master!!!! Some lakes they are spooky others they will swim right up to you.... My experiences have been with the spokier ones... If they are tailing, just like redfish, I have a harder time, as they seem to avoid my baits for the most part. If I do get em to hit, it is my the bread balls on bottom.... If they are feeding off grass up top... that is when It gets fun... Get the crust from white bread and tear off 2 to 3 inches, and as soon as I see a piece get slurped... I know there is 99.9 percent chance I am getting one... Thread on a piece on to a size 1 or 1/0 circle... light wire as you want the bread to float... Let the wind push your bait toward the spooky fish.... When the bait gets sucked in, wait like 2 to 3 seconds and just reel.. they have very rubber like lips, and I can honestly say I have NEVER hooked and lost one... I've got them up to 35lbs, easy.... The fight is whatever... I mean its good, as any fish is going to pull... but if it were any 35 pound fish other than a carp, it would be rediculous... The fights are usualy short and the first 2 to 3 runs are fun..
My posts are just my opinion... Gathered from my research and my experiences in this passion we all share.. Dont hate if my opinion differs from yours... We all have opinions just like butt holes

I have caught them in Connecticut by cutting a notch in hard dogfood and hot glueing a hookto it. I throw out normal dogfood to attract them, then when they start feeding I throw out the one with the hook on it. I make several for every trip because I loose the dogfood everytime I catch a carp or if the dogfood sits in the water for too long, it gets soggy and sink (the carp won't eat it if it sinks; it looks unnatural). This worked for about a year, but then they got smart and stopped eating it. I have only ever fished for carp in a small farm pond, so they were extremely spooky. You might get different results on lakes or canals though.
