Biscayne Bay Speckled Trout
I tried kayak fishing for the first time this afternoon. Went out in Biscayne Bay to fish the grass flats around I-195. I was throwing pinfish and shrimp on a popping cork rig. The action was fast and furious. Landed around 15-20 trout with a few around 20" and the rest 12-15". All the big fish were taken on 3-4" pinfish. Jacks, needlefish and cudas were in the mix too. A shark followed in one of my trouts and spooked right next to the yak. That was cool. It made me think twice about hopping in the water to cool off... Anyways a lil video montage. Tight lines.

Diggin the video man. I think we're going to be seeing more and more this year. I was down there about a week ago thought it looked like a solid place to yak. Good work!

Did you fish when you went out of Morningside? Looks like a good area for trout. I was sin the flats between 195 and the Venetian Causeway... Ever try by the Margaret Pace park? No boat launch but a lot of promising looking potholes and such?TheReelHangover wrote:I think I saw you out there today.. I went out of morningside park..

Yea I was out fishing that day.. Ok I was alittle north of you then.. North of 195 (Juilia Tuttle Causeway). There are some good flats and also artificial reefs at like 30 feet deep.. Parking is free and it is in a nice park, gated too..

I caught a grouper there in the flats on a jig... I was surprised when I saw it!
You can see how shallow it is in the first pic.. so you know Im in the flats...
It was about 15 inches

Sweet lil grouper man. Free parking? I have to check that out next week and save the $1.50/hr I would spend at metered parking...TheReelHangover wrote:I caught a grouper there in the flats on a jig... I was surprised when I saw it!
