how to use left over braid
i have about 100 yards of braid left over and i know its not enough to spool a whole reel with it but i was wondering if its a good idea to put mono on first then attach the rest of the braid on top of the mono.
if not any other uses for it??

that will certainly work which many people do. or you can take a small reel and spool the braid on to use it for catching baitfish.

Re: how to use left over braid
On a few of my reels I will fill half with braid and the rest with mono. I like to do it for my reels I use for longer running fish like kingfish or permit or for reels I use heavy mono on like a 4/0 with 100 lb mono to add some line capacity on them.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Re: how to use left over braid
you could used it you just have to know how to do the knot to put them togetherMiami_Chris wrote:i have about 100 yards of braid left over and i know its not enough to spool a whole reel with it but i was wondering if its a good idea to put mono on first then attach the rest of the braid on top of the mono.

Re: how to use left over braid
I do both it all depends on what I am using it for. 100 yards of braid as a top shot with mono as a backing is a lot cheaper than all braid. What will you use the reel for ?

I would use the braid as backing in that case but that is just me. Mono is more abrasive resistant than braid.

I do the same thing on many of my larger reels too. Braid lasts much much longer then mono, so I just change out the topshot of mono every few trips, ends up saving a lot of money in the long run.fishnfool73 wrote:On a few of my reels I will fill half with braid and the rest with mono. Re: how to use left over braid
Not really. I use 300 yards of braid backing on my Accurate 870 for kingfish in the Tortugas, and top the reel off with 30 lb mono. I do the same on my grouper reel 4/0 it has 300 yards of 100 lb braid with a 100 lb mono top shot. At times I will grouper fish in 250 ft plus and need the extra line capacity to reach bottom. It is also easier and cheaper to add a new 100 yard mono topshot if I need to change the topshot out while fishing. Something I learned on my San Diego trip that has stuck with me.

Not only but also mono doesnt get cut off as quick as braid when rubbing against any structurefishnfool73 wrote:Not really. Here is an idea. Buy another spool of braid and tie them together. Booya! No need to thank me. It is all in a good day's work.Miami_Chris wrote:i have about 100 yards of braid left over and i know its not enough to spool a whole reel with it but i was wondering if its a good idea to put mono on first then attach the rest of the braid on top of the mono.

That is what I do, when I see the my reels are low on line I just add what I have left on the spool. I tie them together uni to uni and wallahbolo wrote:Here is an idea. I just don't understand why people can't comprehend that. You can use the braid to tie on your bridge gaff.Alex07 wrote:That is what I do, when I see the my reels are low on line I just add what I have left on the spool.
