I was at bass pro...and I was deciding between two specific spinning reels that I would use for fairly light tackle...a little bass fishing and also throwing lures from the beaches or spillways for slot and below sized snook or maybe even some small tarpon too. I found two rods similarly priced and both seemed to have what I want...just not sure about either of them.

Ive caught mackerel, barracuda, jacks, and bluefish on it. Its very smooth and i like the very fast gear ratio 6.1 to 1 but some problems ive had on it is that its made of plastic and ive had it drop on me once and something inside came loose. It didnt break but i had to open it up and fix it cause the the spool would go down but not up when i reeled.I fixed it and it still works now. Also another time when i was reeling in a lure with it the bail arm hit my hand and the screw popped out along with the line roller and bounced into the rocks.Again, i went home that day and found some replacement parts from reels i had lying around and replaced it and it worked fine.that was a couple months ago. i havent had any problems since though.I guess u do get wat u pay for as i only paid 15$ for it at a clearance sale at kmart.
Ive owned a jarvis walker integra silver 8500 for almost a year also.
For me, its been a solid reliable reel with plenty of line capacity and cranking power.Ive used heavy sinkers and easily reeled them in from over 100 yards away. Finally its been through the ultimate test, when i was fishing at rickenbacker bridge a boat came through at high speed and swept over my line. I had over 300 yards of 25 lb line on it and i got spooled in about 10 seconds.Ive never seen a spool on a reel spin so fast! Even after that, the reel worked fine. I havent had any problems with it yet.I know ur looking for something a little lighter and maybe the same reel but smaller might work for u. Maybe a 3500 or 4500.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope this helps,
