Since male mosquitoes don't bite researchers have focused on genetically modifying males who cannot produce viable offspring and want to release millions of them into the keys. Theoretically any female that is impregnated with them would not give birth to living offspring. Sounds like a pretty cool idea, but kinda scary at the same time.

Re: GMO Mosquitoes in the Keys
Yea I was reading about about it like 3 hours ago wondering if someone here would bring it up ...it does seem legit but idk if I'm ready to cross the line into genetically modified anything lol that's a whole new level, some Jurassic park chit that ends up failing anyways lol... But like some are saying why fix something that isn't broken, we haven't had problems with mosquito born diseases in a long time so why get all preventative now? When it's time then it should be implemented.

If a resident evil crap every came to be...why not the keys. Interesting as it is the next headline in a few years will look like this. "Genetically Modified Mosquitoes" have claimed 100 lives this year and no end in sight. The new Bio-tech lab is about to released another G.M.M code name "super genetically modified mosquitoes V.1" or S.G.M.M that will end them all. The released of this super bug comes too late for the latest victim found fishing and still holding a lizard fish before his end. F.W.C/ Investigators reported that the his cooler was empty after being out here for 4days fishing. Investigator said he was on a forum, Boatlessfishing...We contacted members of this forum & they said he wont be missed.

In other news, it's an incredibly stupid idea. The company is already in hot water for a similar deal in the islands somewhere from the keys news article.

Nature finds a way to make us look like fools when we try to play '' God.'' Always has always will. Bad idea as much as I would love to fish those summer nights without the swamp angels taking their tax.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Although we all hate them with a passion, they are a vital link in the food chain, a staple for MANY species of fauna down there. If they're biting, put on some bug spray and be done. No need to meddle.... At best these things become immune to poison, or make the current formulas of bug spray useless... At worst, we start growing legs after been bitten by a GM female (Which I guarantee you they will release, cuz, well they are human... Mistakes will be made)

You mean like when the University of Florida was allowed to release love bugs as they were supposed to kill the fire ants on the side of the road now look at the mess we get every year.
