For those who know me, on the internet I am always civil, never call people names or call their ideas stupid. Here are all the possible reasons I could come up with. It was probably #3:
1) I did complain about mod behaviour - stupid me.
2) This is a Canadian forum and I might of indirectly made fun of a mods hockey team on a thread someone else started. - most canadians can take some indirect ribbing.
3) I got tired of bashing on the forum and set one dude straight on our ministry of natural resources. I did this only with facts but the guy did a fine job of showing his ignorance and injected race into the issue.
4) I tried to resolve this with the mod in pm...if I had said nothing I'd still be on the board.
Anything to bend the rod.

I did see a good one at anglins saturday night. I didnt take a pic but there was a guy fishing and wearing a set of doctors rubber gloves... I thought it was pretty funny...I had a good laugh on the inside. I guess he didnt want any dirty fish on his hands like my daughter would said.

Last time I was on the sea legs I used those kind of gloves to apply sunscreen. I rarely use sunscreen because I do not like to get it on my hands then transfer to my bait. That is it . I do not use them to fish.

A friend of mine wears doctor latex gloves when handling fish. He has a slight allergic reaction to the slime if he gets any cuts.

I used to buy the spray on. It would be gone after one outing.

Though they weren't fishing they are worthy of a report. I was near the end of the jetty at Alabama Point, AL. I meet up with a buddy of mine Pier#r. He was working a live shrimp on the west side of the jetty. I decided to test the action of a couple of different sizes of MirrOdine twitchbaits on the east. Then two teenage boys walked out past us to the very end. They goofed around a while doing who knows what for a while. I then noticed them working their way into the water, just mid calf deep to this point. I knew they had the notion of swimming out to a channel marker and climbing up it. I simply told them, "that's not a good idea". I went back over to where #r was on the west so that I may ignore them and fish. He was swimming live shrimp almost six feet below a cigar float and getting some action. That twitchbait needed to get deep. I ask him for a split shot and he gave me one and asked if that was enough. Okay give me two! First cast I hooked in a very nice 147 lb block of granite. My pole was giving that rock all it could handle, but my line broke and adios $6 . I put on a Johnson gold spoon knockoff that got a decent strike except the gold plating made the hook difficult to sharpen. I eventually decorate the subsurface rocks with it too. I decided that a saw buck worth of gear gone in just a half hour was enough. I was walking back out over the rocks and bust my arse as a one of the rocks wiggled under foot and I broke one of my rods. I snapped it a second time intentionally into three pieces out of one end. Now I've got a compact 4 piece combo. It was an inexpensive and simple build I'm only out about $40 at the most, so no biggie.

Image

Oh by the way those idiot children did swim out and didn't put it together that the ladder was for climbing on to the marker from a boat, not some sort of aid to dumbass swimmers. They decided that the lesser goal of touching the channel marker was enough to satisfy their egos. Dumbass kids.

Thanks karma, you sucked pulling your weight.

This is more of a googan admission than report.

It was early in the year on a lake in Northern Minnesota. The ice had just gone out and the water was still really really cold. I was fishing by myself so I had the boat and trailer rigged up so I could launch it by myself. I tied a long rope from the roof rack of my jeep to the bow of my 18 foot Starcraft deep V. I would back in, hit the brakes, the boat would float back, then I grab the line, pull the boat to the dock and tie it off. There was a line of people and with this method I can usually get in and out faster than most boats with several guys.

So, I do my patented one man launch procedure with one fatal flaw. In my preparation to go the night before, I had gotten everything ready I could think of. I had the rope on the front deck of the boat and figured I would tie it off when I got to the dock. When I went to launch, I forgot to check that the line was tied to the bow cleat.
I backed up, hit the brakes and watched the boat slide off the trailer. I also watched the rope that was tied to the boat get tight, then fall in the water. The dock was a short one, so the boat was already past it.

About 10 years ago I used to be in really good shape. I did some amateur Thai boxing and worked out 5 days a week. That was about 40 pounds, 50 cartons of cigarettes, 84 cases of beer, and 300 pounds of fast food ago.

I looked at the dock, the boat, and the distance between the two. I had a sudden Jackie Chan flashback and knew, absolutely knew I could make a running Jackie Chan leap and make it to the boat. So, I tried that plan. When my feet left the dock and I was in mid air, I suddenly remembered all the smokes, beers, and tacos, and that Jackie Chan did not do those things. I did however, make it to the boat. I struck the top rail of the side of the boat mid chest, knocking all the air out of my lungs. I tried to hang on but the pain made me curl into the fetal position and bob in the water like a dead carp. I then tried a futile attempt to pull myself into the boat. My ribs hurt so bad I couldn't pull myself over the side. So I swam to the back and pulled myself up into the slightly oily spillway on the transom and climbed in. I got the 2 cycle oil on the bottom of my shoes, and when I hit the aluminum transom, I went ankles over ass onto the motor, and back in the water. I finally managed to get in the boat and get it started, taking it back to the dock. No one seemed to mind waiting in line one bit, I actually got a thank you from one guy because apparently he took great joy showing his wife that someone was a bigger moron than he was. One old guy was sitting in his boat still laughing, and said "I could have given you a ride you know".

And no, I didn't catch any fish.

Saw a similar comedy of errors at Cal Park on lake Michigan one morning. I will say it was dark and early. First try, he forgot to release the winch cable on his 25' Thompson. Boat van and all went way deeper in than expected. second try, got the cable right but the rear break's were wet. He managed to stop the van about the time the motor died. One of the guy's with him tied the boat off and another guy was nice enough to unhook his boat and pull this guy out. More to get him out of the way than anything else. After pulling his rig into the lot the guy figures, screw it, I'm going fishing. He get's to the launch dock only to realise he forgot to put the plug in the boat, which is now sunk to the gunnels. When we left he was calling Tripple A. that is one phone call I would have loved to have heard.
Nice Boat! Now get it outa my driveway!

I think this was a guy trying to sell a boat. it was a nice b whaler it didn't have hull numbers with 5 large men in it and they kept going around in a circle that would take about 5-7 to complete.
The problem i had with him was he would pass about 1/2-3/4 of the way between the bridge and power lines not thinking anything about it even though he had to see me casting in the same direction.
This went on and on for over 2 hours as he would change the crew out and then get back on the "track". I wave him the h out a few times but he still would use the area i was fihsing in to do test rides.
i didnt have anything i could cast out far enough for a clothes line or i am sure i would have.
shoulda took a pic
no wonder the bait stayed down low all afternoon.

Was this at Toms Harbor bridge by chance? I've had guys do the exact same thing there that are selling boats from Hawks Cay.

There was this guy at channel 2 a few weeks ago that was keeping shrimp alive in a bucket with an airator. The bucket must of been broken because he had the airator on top of the bucket. He was fishing (with a boatless fishing shirt) all morning with them, then he took a long break. When he went back to fish he rested the bucket on top of the side of the bridge. When he picked the bucket up to continue the long walk he bounce the bucket slightly and the airator went over the side (SPLASH). He fished about 2 live shrimp and then they all died after that. The goog was last seen with his shirt off drinking a grape soda. I can't tell you who the googan is.

I was at juno pier last saturday catching some pretty healthy blue fish (2-10 pounds) as i pulled one over the rail a muscular guy with his girlfriend walked over to me. he says to his girlfriend, see that fish right there honey thats a keeper cobia. i looked at the guy like he was on something but the girl looked at him like he was so smart. people like that just make me laugh . ahh whatever at least he didnt go tell everyone that the cobia were thick at the end of the pier that could of turned out ugly for the 10 guys with cobe jigs intently watching the water waiting for that tell tale ray(it never came  ) lol just thought i would tell my story its pretty funny to me.

There are a couple of terms I see frequently on the forum but don't know what they mean. I'm fairly new here on Boatless Fishing so the questions may seem silly to those that have been around a while.

1) What is a Googan?

2) What is a Grover? Mangrove snapper? Grouper?

1) What is a Googan? Someone who does really dumb things while fishing, or refuses to take advise from others and ends up looking like an idiot. Don't worry, everyone was a googan at one point in their lives...it is kind of like poker, if you can't spot the googan in the crowd, it is likely you

Yes, a mangrove snapper.

Wasn't quick enough with my phone camera, but I saw a new way to rig up a line out on Juno Pier on Sat that made me chuckle a bit. The new rig set up goes like this: main line to 4 oz pyrmid sinker, then also tie 18" leader to same 4 oz sinker and attach yozurri to other end of leader. This set up is fished like this: throw out combination of 4oz sinker and yozurri, let sink to bottom, wait 15 mins....if no bite, retrieve and repeat.

So next time you can't get any bites, might try that setup! :uplol:

I have countless googan stories haha, a while ago on Dania i was fishing my usual spot on the T when a bunch of clueless looking oriental guys and girls show up on the T. they were fishing the spinning rods both upside down and the drag too loose so they took forever to reel. one of the girls had a sabiki and caught several ballyhoos, small pinfish, assorted reef fish and wrasses then proceeded to put every fish she caught in a plastic grocery bag, I was baffled so I casually asked her, do you eat every one of those fish? she said yes as she pulled in a little tropical reef fish the size of a thumb, seriously?? every one of those, why do they keep everything??
There's no such thing as too much bait!!

Believe it or not, sometimes it works. FF and I saw a guy bring in what had to be a 10 lb tripple tail off Juno beach. He had a Doc's goofy jig on a bottom finder rig with a 4 oz weight. Wind and surf were slamming that day. I guess it was the only way he could get it out there. Of course he was fishing for Pompano but hey, whatever work's
