Pier Kings

Post by cigar »

Ive read several posts here about pier kings and most are about fishing trolleys. Here in the panhandle no one uses trolleys, we prefer freelining live bait or snobbling for kings. Snobbling is fishing a dead bait, usually a cigar minnow, in a way that makes it look injured or dying. You can either sight cast to kings or blind cast and try to "work one up". The best tackle is a 8 or 9 foot spinning rod and a reel with a manual pickup so you can easily work the line on and off the roller during the retrieve or at the strike. You dont want the king to eat when the lines on the roller or youll wind up with just the cigs head. We use a single #2 or #4 treble through the baits head, and freespool a couple seconds at the strike so he can get the whole bait in his mouth. Everyone has their own special retreive, but usually something like this- make your cast, either to a king or "blind". Just before the bait touches the water, hook the line with your finger make the cig skip a little, then sink. Maybe give it a couple of dying twitches as it sinks. If you dont get ate, hook the line on the roller and make a fast erratic retrieve to the surface and repeat the sinking process again.

Good Post thanks

If you would like cigar I will gladly create a Fishing report area for are that you live in by the County or Countys and it would be were the others are, if you would like to supply info and reports for that area and I am sure there our other people coming through this site looking for info on the pan Handle.

It would need a Moderator which you would be first in line for if you want?

Just and idea, I am always trying to expand the Florida Boatless Info. Thanks
