Let's see those carts

Post by Kingofthesea »

I didn't want to hijack another active thread going on now where members have started to post pics of their pier carts. These innovative creations amaze me with everyone's mods and innovations. Here's mine.

I don't have a problem hauling fishing equipment in the jeep. Without a top, doors or windows anything will fit. But she's 28 years old now and I try to avoid any distance greater than an hour or speeds above 65 which means she's not running to the Keys. That leaves me with my Mustang that has a small back seat and a trunk that's basically nonexistent . One large suitcase doesn't fit even fit in the trunk. So for me to build a cart that would fit along with everything else I carry was a daunting task. Here's my solution.

#1 cart starts off as a RubberMaid dolly 31x21x7 which actually fits in the mustang trunk! The cooler, rods, bag etc fit in the back seat.
#2 handle pops up for pushing. Note the wood strip which prevents cooler sliding forward
#3 cooler in place. I cut the top off another bucket and glued it to the cooler lid. This is going to prevent the 5 gallon bait bucket from sliding around bumping over the bridge
#4 here's how the bait bucket fits into the ring for travel
#5 this is a flat strip of metal mounted flush on the side of the cooler with washer spacers
#6 the rod holder is mounted on to a piece of aluminum angle iron which fits perfectly into the bracket. I'm liking this feature because you can mount another 4rod holder on the other side of the cooler for Keys trips. When you don't need it you just leave it home. I only need one for the piers. And having it removable works well in the back seat.
#7 the finished product. My tackle bag lead keeps it from moving around and will hold my chair etc up against the cooler

This fits my needs and works within my limitations quite nicely. Let's see your carts. I'm always looking for new ideas.
