On the Hunt
Need Bait, Crabs
So Dave and I have been needing crabs for Permit fishing, We find alot of permit around this time of year and a few other Fat fish like Cobia that like crabs.
At this time of year we fish Crab on a Rod and 1 to 2 lb Head Baits on another.
We head to Juno for Crabs "Calicos" and figure we will soak a few crabs and Big baits.
We get there about 7:00pm and toss out a couple of half blue claws we had picked up at Publix. We start fishing for Croakers and Whitting and get a couple right away. I lob a Big Craoker head out and keep Whitting fishing, we get a couple of Sail Cats and Dave 's Permit pole gets dunked up and down a couple of times and gets cleaned. My Big pole zipps off, I hook the fish and I am reeling him in but it pulls off of the hook, so I crank in fast grab the tail end and lob it back out. As I'm setting the rod down it takes off, I hit the clicker and I almost put a huge backlash in it, the fish is booking and I crank into it and the fish turns and swims right in, I tryed to catch up and bury the hook but it was useless, I hear him come off at the surface 40 feet out, wonder what it might have been 50 or so pounds "Cobia, Shark, Ray?"
Bait back up and toss out and wait hours and Nothing. Permit Rods did get hit but I think it was Big Blow fish or something and we ended up with a few more Whitting and Croakers, a couple of Bonnet head Sharks, 1 Sheephead and the guy next to us caught a 25.5 inch Snook which was released and saw another guy get a Sheephead and that is all I saw when I was there we left about 5:00 am.
We did get a half a 5 gallon bucket full of Calico Crabs to freeze for this next two weeks or how ever long they last.

This Sunday morning at the pier saw Bluefish, Jacks, Spanish Mackerel.
