The rod is to big you need backbone so a 7 - 8 ft. would be goo try a heavy ocean master or if you don't mind price a star rod .

I myself like mono, I am use to the stretch of it and I like to give fish half a chance to spool me or break me off if I am not on top of it.

only when it tangles with their lines, it creates a big mess. if you have a fish on mono the braided line will cut it most of the time.

i find the best use for braid line is from a boat fishing...

Nautilas Circle Hooks by Gamakatsu 3/0, 4/0, 5/0 and 9/0 is what I like to use.

My favorite Old School Hook is Mustad Bronze Short Shank same sizes aka Live Bait hooks.

It really depends on the size of the fish and type, I would only trust 17 with a maybe 5 or 6 lb fish and its not the line I would worry about at this point, it would be your leader, with the fight...

No, there is no reason to gaff the fish because you can flip a 20 inch Fish on 10 lb test and thats a keeper snapper.

Gaffs are only for fish you can't flip and in the case of a restricted species...

i would just drop the line in a hot bucket of water and spool directly onto your reel should losen up and lose the curls..tensin strength will br greatly reduced depending on storage factors. cool dry...

Can anybody suggest a lure that will swim right below the water surface, maybe an inch or two? I have a Mirrolure or two that will sink to about five inches, but are there any others?
