ow to catch hog snapper?... help
i've caught hog snapper in the past and was wonderiing if anyone has targeted them primarily and could give me any tips. any specifics on leader size, hook size, or a rig to prefer to use for them? maybe even a better bait than shrimp or even cut up shrimp??.... any tips would help!

About the only way I target them is with the spear-gun while lobster diving..

Small Crabs (not from Woody's and about the size of a quarter) or Shrimp. Fish them near the pylons. The shrimp don't have to be alive neither do the crabs.

I know a guy who swore by dead shrimp with the shell peeled off.

They like sea fans and other soft corals to hide behind so find an area with soft corals and hogfish are usually around. Live shrimp/fresh dead shrimp/crabs will definitely increase your chances, but still be prepared to weed through some non-target species before you find one.
