very very true about that or i would think.


especially reels with 100lb drag. they should be best for a fighting chair or someone who's got the weight not to be pulled in.
but it is sweet to at least own a reel thats cool and has a lot of drag on it.

You are so wrong my friend.
This is to an tiburon engineering touch called "Lug and plug system on all open top reel models", what that does is you can have the harness plug in the frame or outside. Is your choice. If you are targeting huge fish, like sharks, you probably will have that set to stay outside in order for you to clip the harness.
I can tell that you only looked at the picture without doing any reading... at least.

True, BUT you won't use a reel like this at the limit like many shark reels in this class.
Using 30-40lbs of drag from the beach is only half of what that reel can handle. Using same amount of pressure on Penn will push some wear on that reel, unless you add an extra disc clutch spring washer to tune up the drag at 50lbs before loosing freespool.

Bolo is absolutely right. Even 35+lbs of drag will be difficult to deal with on sand...even in a harness. 60-80lbs is going to be very difficult without a chair. 30lbs of drag on strike should be fine.

As for braid backing, there is no reason to go to 130lb braid. I would use Jerry Brown 80, which breaks at over 100lbs. 80-100lb mono topshot should be good as well.

A 50 international is a great reel, and is a much better reel than any senator. I have fished internationals my whole life. I have a 30W that has caught countless bluefin and yellowfin tuna as well as sharks from boats/beach/bridges. It is about 12 years old and still works flawlessly.

First I've heard of this. Either the FWC guy's don't know about it or don't care. I see guy's at Anglen's and Dania use them all the time.
