headed down to the keys about a month ago to fish, not much happnin and the tide is about to change i run to the truck grab my gun mask snoorkle and flag. waters about 13- 20 ft in spots. the vis is kinda low but i had plans to dive and im gonna dive.seen some small hogs and shot 3 nice snapper and one cuda 2 later be used as shark bait

good catch i thought there was no spear fishing in the keys

Is this from the beach? I have a yak and was wondering if there is anything accessible in the Keys for me. I paddled with a friend out to the reef from Marathon. There is no way I am going to go that far out again. (5 miles one way) I have also been out on a boat in Key West and did well, but I'd rather swim out or use the yak.

It was my understanding that it was legal south of Vaca Cut not Longkey.

Nope, it is south of Long Key. Here is the catch though, you can't spearfish within 100 yards of any fishing bridge. You're lucky FWC didn't see you or you would've had a fat ticket. Here are the regs...http://floridakeys.noaa.gov/edu/spearfi ... ochure.pdf

dive off the end an swim to the old cut off bridge. b4 the tide picks up go back an have your buddies troll you back to shore on a rope.
