% Jumbo ------------ 20
COTTON Disease [quantity]: 0
Location: Shands Pier, west side
Water Temperature: XX
Wind: E
Debris Issues: XX
Average # per Cast: 15-20
Current direction: North, outgoing
Boat Congestion On River: Pier
Casting Time: almost 4 hours!
Size of Net: 8ft
# Casters: 1 + 1 culling
Interesting By-Catch: Huge mullet, saw someone catch someone elses cast net
Took the Mother-in-law with me to Shands Pier last night, scored 2 limits, was nice to have someone pick up my shrimp and cull for me. FWC was out there in full force yesterday, checking everyone on the pier every 3 hours. I think alot of people without fishing lisences was worried, lol. Everyone I saw was sticking by the 5 gallon bucket per person rule. Shrimp was riding the outgoing tide, best time was 2 hours before and after hightide. It was actually slow at Shands, I hear its the slowest its been since the run started 2 months ago. Started out catching 5 a throw around 9pm then 10 a throw around 10pm, about 15 a throw at 11pm and 25 a throw around midnight till 1 AM. Left after catching 2 limits. The shrimp arent around till after sunset but you have to secure your spot early, there was a ton of people at the pier. The shrimp were mostly large brown and jumbo browns, and taste alot better and bigger then the whites I got at Palatka bridge two weeks ago.

Wow you loaded up. Is that up near Jacksonville? I'd love to go shrimping but not sure if I want to make a 5 hour drive for it. One night like that and I'd have enough surf fishing bait to last me 2 years.

Last time I went to publix it was 4.99 a lb. Did you just wake up from a 10 year coma?
Sorry you don't want to stay up a night to catch enough shrimp to last 3 months but hey to each their own. You might as well go buy 300 dollar outfits 30 dollars of braid 25 dollars of fluro and 10 dollars of hooks then pay 10 for parking 5 for entrance fees and fish all day in 100 degree weather and maybe just maybe catch a 20 inch mutton. But throwing a castnet for a few hours and loading up with 60lbs or more of shrimp, nah that's not logical.

Re: Shand's Pier Fruit Cove Sept 6, 2011 Shrimp Summer/Fall
I just cooked up 3 dozen jumbos, 3 blue crabs, and 2 big fat ribeyes for my twins 3rd birthday last night. We know good food in this house. I'm 315lbs, I know it too well!
Rory I don't think its worth a 10 hour drive to get 5 gallons (40lbs) of shrimp. For me its just 3 and a half and I made two trips already, going back tonight with a few fishing buddies.
I had about 80lbs of shrimp caught, after deheading them about 55lbs of shrimp. Freezer is getting full.
I couldn't imagine peeling them all, just breaking off their heads and ziplocking them into 25 full quart bags took 2 and half hours.

Re: Shand's Pier Fruit Cove Sept 6, 2011 Shrimp Summer/Fall
i said 20 mins , but i guess that was for me as i have done this for a living on the back of a shrimp boat and at a fish house were we were doing 200-250 boxes between 10 people , as a kid i used to make a good check heading shrimp after school , most fish houses would pay 25 - 40 cents a pound and how it worked is you kept the heads you have done and at the end of it they were weighed and you were paid for the poundage of heads you had , was easy to make 50 - 60 bucks a day doing it ...
