Last nite Ch.5
Hit up ch.5 with my lil bro for a quick trip and managed 3 muttons to 17", 3 grovers one being 18 or so, a yt and a damn jack (LOL).. but, idk what was in the water or if those palolo worms (dont know if i spelled it correctly) but between the bothe of us, we caught and released at least 15 short muttons from 14-15"...it was just crazy..all in all, definitely an action packed nite!

That was a busy 5 hours. I know it was hard to leave during a good bite like that. Was there anyone else on the bridge ?

Good thing is, you have all summer tho...i typically like fishing for muttons during the spring-summer. I feel the bite is better and they stay on the flats and shallows until the water really starts heating up and then move back out on the reefs..buts thats just specualation..plus the constant SE winds that stir up the water and possibly push fish in a lil closer

Ive fished the spawn just once, and i cant tell you (because youve been there, done that) how awesome it was..my personal best mutton was 12lb...and thats a baby compared to the beasts caught during the spawn..but ive never done it again.

Nice catch! I was there with 3 other guys Thursday from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm and only caught keeper 1 yellow jack, a 14" mutton and a load of undersize yellow tails.
We were using 'hoos, live pinfish, pinfish filets and shrimp, with #20 flouro leader, 1/0 light wire Owner circle hooks.
What were we doing wrong? Location, time of day? Was supposed to be high tide at around 1:00 p.m. but the current was flowing out the whole time and then turned around about 1, shouldn't it have been coming in all morning?
Sorry not a big fan of the night fishing, too many rats.
The popo did nail some guys with undersize groupers, 2 $500 fines, OUCH!

Re: Last nite Ch.5
Probably just time of day u fished..as long as u dont lay down, you should be aiight...lol....but we were using fresh hoos...i usually take some pins for the bigger grovers, but it was a really short trip..i usually stay at least a whole day. Funny, that all the muttons came from us throwing under the driving bridge..not one came from the gulf side..we were casting against the current, which btw wasnt even ripping as it usually is..really slow and weird current. The mangs did come from the gulf side behind the walls

Don't like fines then don't poach, simple, we are all watching....
I used to love fishing the tide change there for tarpon. Glad the law is doing their thing down there.

Those old queen slave owners that wrote our Constitution 200 years ago were brilliant.
"Every four years Americans get the President they deserve".
