I questioned this because Ive seen and heard huge fish off the shore lately. i know what they can do, so I was wondering if one of my reels loaded with 450yds is enough. BTW, the line is 40lb braid which to me seems tough enough even though ive heard people stop big fish with 20.

That should be enough. It also depends how big is the Tarpon.

450 yds should be more than enough for almost all tarpon you will hook into. and 40lb braid is fine cause you arent trying to stop him dead in his tracks

You should be fine with what you have, but be sure to use not less than 50lbs leader for small to medium tarpon and 80 - 100 lbs leader for the bigger tarpon. Beleive me, I catch alot of tarpon, and the heavyier the better, makes for a shorter more interesting fight and increases the chance of you actually landing the fish. I'm not saying it can't be done on 30 lbs leader but I have loss many small tarpon trying to fish so light and have learned not to do so. I have also have had big tarpon chew through 80lbs leader. Tarpon are not leader shy at all, I have a friend that fishes for them with wire and he catches tons (not very sporting but effective).
Good luck!

Zebco, because I'm sure you knew it all before you started fishing right?

ZEBCO emerged from the womb zinging a baitcaster in one hand and throwing a 12 ft castnet with the other . He had already mastered a Bimini twist before birth by practicing on his umbilical cord for 9 months. His first words were '' That's not how you rake sandfleas googan.''

You pretty much summed it up. You did miss one thing. It was a boss of the house getting that 120 up the hoohoo to keep my bottle cold.
