Does WinnDixie or Publix still carry frozen squid for bait?

Post by Ralph »

I used to buy the 5 lb blue box of whole frozen squid at my local WinnDixie (Boca Raton). Went looking for some and can't find it anymore. The bait shops have it but it's usually less expensive at the grocery store. Does anyone still get their frozen squid baits at Publix or WinnDixie?

Both still carry it. Look for the frozen food section or ask at the seafood department.

I was at the New Walmart north of Delray on Federal last night, and I think they had a good selection of weight and product. They also had nightcrawlers in a cooler, Nice to know where to get them.

I'll check out that Walmart in Delray. I went to the Walmart at 441 and Hillsborough today and they had nothing. It's not worth going too far out of the way to save a few bucks but if I can find a Walmart, Publix or WinnDixie in Palm Beach County or North Broward that carries the 5 lb boxes of squid (the "Qualy Pak" or "Lund's") and save a couple of bucks, I'll do it.

my local bait shop wants $12.95. Last time I got it at Winn-Dixie (about 2 years ago) it was $8. It's probably $9-$10 nowadays.

While driving around also check out gas stations around you, I know of a few of Gas stations near me selling squid, dead frozen shrimp, silver sides and even hoos at times.

I know the 24 hr mart that I get my frozen shrimp from has blocks of other stuff as well, It is all Bionic and I will get the price. Next time I get to walmart i will look there as well, maybe even take a pi pf the freezer so I get them all.

I checked out the Walmart at Federal Hwy and Gulfstream Blvd in Boynton Beach. They do have a freezer in the fishing dept stocked with lots of frozen baits. But I'm looking for the 5 lb valuepak of squid and they didn't have that.

I think the most likely places to find bait cheap will be gas stations and stores near the boat ramps.

on boynton inlet multiple people seem to be using a brand called qualy pak, so im assuming multiple vendors are selling it in that area.

Qualy Paks are the most common. I got a 5 lb Qualy Pak of squid yesterday at Rays Tackle in Boca for $10.99. So, I'm good for awhile. If anyone finds it cheaper elsewhere, please post it here.

thanks for the replies.

PLEASE support your local bait shops. Otherwise, when you need them, they WILL NOT BE AROUND !!!
