Hit up a bridge last night...

i kept getting shrimp stolen.....caught a few undersized muttons and mangroves....
all of my catches came on my sabiki which was was weird....i caight liek 5 lookdowns, a couple of fish I couldnt figure out, a couple mangroves....let me know other than the grunt and lookdown what these fish are please? i was thinking bermuda chub for one...
tons of action, not a lot of quality catches, but funny that everything pretty much was on sabiki

From top to bottom, Bermuda chub, white grunt, spottail pinfish (I believe, although I don't see the spot very well) and moonfish.

lol i kept the chub because it had so much meat..is it worth cooking I was going to tonight....somebody next to me told me it was a schoolmaster or something, I didnt think it was a snapper but it was 11"

as far as cooking... I threw in the freezer last night...should I not because I didnt gut him last night?

..edit: nevermind I read a bunch of stuff about how bad they stink...he is now bait in the freezer

Be very careful keeping fish you can't ID. Either buy a good ID book, or throw them back if in doubt...if you keep the wrong one and FWC catches you, it will be a very expensive mistake.

very expensive especially since they placed those ID charts at the beginning of every bridge so they no longer give warnings (so they say). by the way I know some people that actually fish for chubs and say they are delicious if you get past the smell and all the crap they vomit and crap on you :ncool:

Get your self a ruler with pics of the fish, it should help a lot. They sell them at Bass Pro and some local tackle shops. Just ask them about it.

the people next to me had a book and they looked and said schoolmaster snapper, it was over 10" so I kept it....I normally would not keep something like that...but since they had the book and told me....I am definately a "Law Abiding Fisherman" and am all about preserving fisheries for the future so dont worry lol

and i do have a lawstick and know most of the species anyway...just a first and looked a lot different than the other chub that I caught earlier in the night

I never really trusted those books. A lot of similar looking fish such as a baby mutton and lane snapper can look similar to some especially if you don't know the species. Coloration can vary depending on the water they came from as well and can be tricky to the person who doesn't know what to look for. Besides, if someone has to look at a book to try to give me advice.. We'll.. I'd rather just let it go and not risk it lol

Hey guys ... Im looking to go fishing next week wednesday night to thursday afternoon. I wanted to know if you guys know of any spots I can catch just a few finger mullets or other bait fish that night in the general vicinity of islamorada. Im looking to hit up channel 2 and channel 5. I was thinking of stopping by bud and mary's around midnight and see if theres anything swimming around or hanging out around the dock there. What do you guys think?
I'd be a bum if it meant that I could fish everyday for the rest of my life !!! *FORMALLY saltlife87*

Got this jack within about 20 minutes of getting there on friday using a pinfish. He wasn't much of a fighter at first but picked up at the end, almost fighting to the end like a bonita.
Image

Did some bridge art that turned out pretty good.
Image

Then went on to catch a 13 inch grover and had a larger one that I could see coming out of the tunnel when the hook pulled. i got a bunch of new hooks at the isla moarada nautical fm yesterday. They will be better for that smaller line. Didn't see marcus this year but i did see him at the one in big pine last month. Also got some good long a bombers a couple of 200g v jigs and 4oz lead heads all at the same booth. The bombers were all 20ft lips. Last year the guy had 4-6 fut lips. Ran into my boss while there  haha.
