Sargassum fish

Post by fishinDave07 »

I recently aquired a sargassum fish the other day at the beach and it's actually the biggest one i've had in my tank (3rd or 4th sargassum i've ever owned). I usually feed the sargassums tubifex worm cube which i stick the cube to a piece of coral and they usually nibble at it. Do u guys know what other food they go for.

p.s. Heres a pic of it, its about 3 1/2 inches long. The little blue damsel in the back is about an inch.

I am an aquarium enthusiast as well but have no idea what they eat. Speaking of one hoss of tanks, I have a friend who has one that is over 16,000 gallons built into his home. It's amazing, it's filtration is so advanced it only has to be touched once every 18 months.

I to have a 55 gallon tank. But it is freshwater. My friend who has the monster tank has several sharks in it, a couple black tips i know of, he paid 1800 a piece for them lol, you guys coulda probably saved him at least a couple hundred right?

KY, Did you see the one I just caught in the keys "in Monroe Reports" it would have fit in that tank NICE.

That is a Huge Tank and I guess if your going to do it and you can afford it do it right and have an Ocean in your House, I would.

A tank like that I would think could hold many species of sea life that would not live in a smaller tank which would be cool to see everyday, that is one of my favorit parts of fishing, watching the wild life where ever I am.

yea that sure would have made a nice specimen for tank. His tank is amazing, needless to say money isnt an issue for him. I cant even afford a small salt tank lol.. But someday i hope to have a descent size salt tank.

I'm amazed thats the smallest blacktip you ever caught BF, i caught 3 blacktips in panama city that were half that size lol, beginners luck, the bad kind lol

Definately, my favorite is feeding time. When i feed the puddingwife "Green Wrasse" it goes nuts...it is the most ferocious fish that i've had in the tank. I'll hold the small lance fish by the tip of the tail and the Puddingwife with swim up and rip its head off  ...its intense!

Oh yes all live corals there is nothing fake in the tank.
It's a 55 gallon tank.
The yellow tang died after having him over a year and I have run all the test to try and see why but can't find anything bad in the water.
It's a good hobby I enjoy so whenever you see me out fishing and also looking down in the water you know i'm looking for things I can put in the tank.
A buddie of mine along time ago had a 55 that was full of corals and expensive sea horses and one night fishing he caught a lobster and thought it would look good in the tank.
Next day his wife called him and said she is boiling the water and if he wants that lobster he might get home in time to get a bite of it.

So I am carefull as to what I put in the tank.
And yes it can get expensive.

well i bought a dozen live minnows that i put in the tank and they were all missing the next day so im pretty sure something got to them. I'm almost sure it was the sargassum fish because i had just fed the pudding wife and it had buried itself in the sand for the night. I also tried some brine shrimp but it ended up being TOO small, so i want to try for bigger shrimp.

I regret to inform you that my sargassum fish has passed on  ...it passed to a better, more weedy place. I discovered it's partially eaten carcass in the tank this morning, it seems that the puddingwife was having it for a snack. And now, a moment of silence for my expired friend :( ...

I used to have a sargassum fish in Marine Biology class. He lived there for a year and finally I released him out at sea on a giant weed line. He used to LOVE eating live guppies (from ponds) They were free to get and seemed to be irresistible to him!
