heres a link to some good info on Drift anchors
http://www.seakayak.ws/kayak/kayak.nsf/ ... NT00446662

I use SEATTLE SPORT'S Kayak Drift Anchor purchades at West Marine for under 20bucks comes with all the line & clips you'll need, which I cut a bit.
I personaly like about 15ft line and about 20 ft recovery line to pull it back in. I like this one over others i've used. It lets you set the opening therefor giving you the ability to control your drift. unlike the ones made for small boats.

Thanks Luii, looking at all the sizes and styles I did not know what was correct. Now after reading that its a must have sounds like it will make life lots easier. I installed my rack yesterday so all I need is a few more things and I will be sea ready.

How do you have your drift sock rigged? Is it on an anchor trolly? I am thinking that would be the best way. What size line do you use? I was looking at small like sailing cord so it would be out of the way, but this may be hard to retrive. I guess I just need to get out on the water and watch what others are doing and what reallly works.

It comes all rigged. I clip the main line to the rear of my yak that way I always drfit in a true dirrection & the release cord is cliped next to my seat (wiithin arms reach to retract). I mainly only use it for fighting big fish. I keep it all nicely folded behind my seat and after fighting a fish for a while I reach back deploy and it seems to put the breaks on any fish. I've yet to use it for it's intended purpose to control drift. and regarding anchor trollies - I dont use them, never have & not to big on the Idea. I always clip my anchor to the side of my yak & never really cared for all the extra rigging. KISS! plus I like to conserve all the extra weight I can.
But them again to each there own.

After rereading this, I recall that when Yak Attack nd I did a Pompano Pier drift one time, on a windy day, his drict chute really slowed him down from getting blown around while I drifted away !
