Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
Mullet on SoBe again with ZERO action on em. Tons of fingers lining the north jetty on the beach side, watched em for 2 hours, they didn't spray not a single time. Just flipping happily without a care in the world. Where are the snook, tarpon and jacks??? Saw some bigger mullet cruise through the inlet with the outgoing, again, nothing on em???

Fished lauderdale by the sea near oakland (vista park)........ A lot of sardines...... With the occasional mullet pod making its way down the beach..... Lady fish early....... Mixed with jacks....... Was hoping for more mullet....... Patience is a virtue I guess..... And the wait continues!!'

Large pods of Mullet off Singer Island with tarpon busting them. Pods were stationary for the hour I watched them. Be fishing tomorrow!

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
TONS of mullet on Spanish River Blvd beach this morning at sunrise... school after school after school headed slowly South. Most schools were 10' to 40' in diameter. Mullet 5-10" (mostly on the smaller end of that). They were scattered from the sand out to about 200yds. Unfortunately, NOTHING ON THEM!
Didn't get a single hit... didn't see a single explosion. I waited for a school at jap rock.... they got stuck right up in the corner and nothing happened.... after about 5 mins they figured out how to go around. Maybe because it was low tide? gotta run to work now... Where's the predators??? Maybe with the gin clear water I'll have to hit it at night?

usually closest to the inlets is where they start getting crushed but it can happen anywhere just have to be at the right place at the right time. i remember times where we were on pods and couldnt keep a bait in the water between tarpon jacks and blues then there were other times just like you said gator where theres millions of mullet and nothing eating

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
I was at Boynton North Inlet pier at 4 ~ 8 AM. Full of mullets... I have never seen that many mullets. I think those pods shown on Palm beach Inlet came down to Boynton. Before Dawn, some pods already headed out to south.
A lot of lady fishes, 32", 33", 36" snooks ... Strong outgoing tide... I forgot my phone to take a picture. I got cut off 3 times on my 20 LB braid.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
I'll be going down to the Boynton Inlet to try and fly rod along the beach (can't fly fish off the pier, too high) around 12:30 to catch the incoming tide. Will report back...

Cuttoffs mean either blue fish are here, or mackerel were in the mix. What were you pitching to them?

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
Of course, live finger mullet. I drifted the mullet over 150 yards by strong outgoing tide. Very strong bite and some fight and cut off
All cut off occurred in main line (20 LB braid) not leader. No tangle and no line fraying.
It might be a school of blue fish.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
I had floater to keep the bait on top of water. Those cut off occurred in almost same spot. Some kind of predictable biting zone 150 ~ 200 yard where strong outgoing current died down. A school big fish were waiting. In 2nd and 3rd cut off, my drag wasn't that tight.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
Was just fly fishing the Boynton Inlet north beach from 12:30 to 3:30, incoming tide and fairly calm. Mullet 6+ inches and many small baits were lined up just about the length of the beach in a snakelike formation, winding from about 10' to 75 yards from the shore. However, when I left, the bait no longer was that long and mullet were streaming into the inlet. From time to time, very, very large tarpon were seen crashing bait. I was using an 8 wt, primarily site-hunting for snook along the trough and crashing ladyfish. Nor did I see anything caught by two guide boats using live bait. Didn't go onto the pier, so can't say what they were doing. Didn't hook up with anything, but did have some good casts at a few sighted snook and tarpon in the trough. BTW, the bait was so thick that when using a streamer fly (non-sinking), I would ofter foul hook the bait...
