My rod!!!
Got a call from a friend last night that poons were popping & thick in key biscayne. I looked at which rod to take with me....The uglystick was sticking out like a sore thumb and that will be the rod to take with me. The poons werent big around the 15-20lb range if that. Bait out in the water and no more then a few mins, fish on. Poons was peeling a nice amount of line and jumped a few times. Then the unthinkable happened, the freaking rod snapped in half..WTF!!! Here i am trying to bring the poon in but me messing with the rod trying to get it out of the way to clear line the rod...fish gone. RIP Uglystick!

I'm afraid it is.
You guys know that rod has a special meaning to me. I was so pissed off when I got home & threw it away. I'm still a bit of rage about it. Maybe when i cool off, I might just bring it back in. Ron, that was the rod that all the poons like to hit in the keys with 15lb. The list of fish that rod has caught is endless.

Re: My rod!!!
Here is my 2 cents.
Maybe, a little piece of carbon fiber/fiberglass wrap around and then apply epoxy.

In my previous life, I used these kind of composite material. Never used it to fix fishing rod. But multiple wraps of these fibers and being wet by epoxy should be strong enough for rod. You could find some youtubes. Don't use too much epoxy.

Doesn't look broken....well gonna have to take my word for it. I went walking for 7 miles today got back and it's gone.
What I find funny is no one here or the other thread said anything bad about the ugly stick. It was about custom rod and warranty. Well, at least I know I didnt. Then you have Miguelito defending this company as if he needs too. If folks can buy what they can afford and catch fish...good for them. If you have the money and can buy the better gear....good for you. No reason to hate. Hell, jetty park loves his ugly sticks and catches fish.
For one guy you see catching good fish on a Yo Yo I will show you 30plus that dont catch anything. Yuri loves fishing for grouper with his yoyo. Just his thing....to each their own.

.
In my experience, all rods have their own reason to exist.
Most of us have variety of rods, and what I've seen is one rod may catch more fishes than the others for certain conditions but not always.
I am not a fan of particular brand...

Same here....for reels i have Accurate, Penn, Shimano, Avet, etc. Rods are the same, from gator, phenix, penn, ugly etc.kblue wrote:I am not a fan of particular brand...
The newer rods like phenix are crazy in what they use to make them. Lite as a feather and strong; guys whom used glass blank for so long love the weight reduction & the bit faster tape action for feeling the bite. I'm no fan boy of anything, so i get what i like and what works.
Thses guys love their phenix's rod
That's a super cow coming in at 302lb

Now that's a dolphin
