Peacock report

Post by migs24 »

I have been fishing the Osbourne/Ida chain recently with peacocks as my main target. Every day that I've been planning to fish the pier and try out the crab trap I built has had horrible weather and I refuse to pay to get kicked off and not be able to fish because of a little rain and thunder. SO I've been sticking to freshwater chasing after these tough little guys. The population is really flourishing and to my surprise, I've been seeing schoolies with one school having no less than 8 medium fish. I've also started to see some fish bed up but no fry yet that I saw. Hopefully this coming winter is another mild one and the fish stay hungry throughout and grow massive. On my travels I also found a spot that is at least 10 miles away from either Ida or Osborne that had clowns rolling every 5 mins or so. Didn't see a single one roll in the lakes themselves but forever and mile away, they were PACKED in this area. You'll see a report on that soon as well :pistols: If you get out there and find peacocks, don't be a douche.. Catch and release please.

Oh darn. One of those "magical" lures is exposed.

Its been a lot of spot hopping and walking to find where the fish are. Its not just about cranking the lure in as fast as you can, obviously if the fish aren't there it won't matter how fast or slow you work the lure. As for different speeds of working lures, crank and stop works just make sure you crank hard enough to feel the vibration of the lure... you'd be surprised at times though out of nowhere they'll blow up on a slow stop and go. All depends on their mood I guess. Try different speeds and whatever works, works. Post some pics if you get lucky :thumleft:

Lake Osborne, Lake Ida, Tradewinds Park, C14 canal, Markham Park, New River canal, CB Smith Park, C11 canal..... put in your time and distance you'll find them.
Its not like the fish just sit around a specific spot waiting for fishermen & bait to show up.

Depends on where you live. If you're in the west palm area, the north entrance to lake Osbourne has a decent dock where I've seen some very impressive fish landed. Boats around and all. Just east of that dock, there's another small dock where you can throw some shiners out as well towards the weeds that are there. A little patience and hope you're there at the right time.

Fished a club tournament at Ida last Saturday and caught some nice Peas on a chug bug...They were crushing it in the Hunter's run canal. Also caught a couple medium ones on a bed.

Neat. I was wondering if they still had tournaments there. Haven't heard about them in a while. Supposedly the docks around the east side of the lake have been producing some pretty nice fish as well. I try not to mess with the nesting ones too much up here, as for down south (miami) I'm not so forgiving :pistols:

I've been seeing a lot of clowns rolling in the main part of lake Ida in the south end. They only eat live shad though

Has the Broward Co stock rebounded to any fair extent since the freeze a couple of years ago?

Broward county up to about Greater Fort Lauderdale has rebounded great from personal observation. They're pretty thick. The best spots in Broward as far as quantity tends to be on the southern parts and I've had good success and heard good reports from Miramar, Southwest Ranches, and Weston. As for North Broward I have no idea.
Thanks a lot of the info - I'm actually staying north of the area (up at Juno Beach) but wanted to take the ride down to find a peacock or two (mostly paying more attention to the saltwater scene - but always wanted to catch a peacock)...I know my daughter likes that Flamingo Sanctuary that's a little west of the airport out off of 595...are any of the locations you mentioned near that area?
