i find it hard to believe that a jack in the canal could survive freshwater. thats why i think it must reach the ICW somewhere. if you look it up on a aerial map like google or bing, you'll find out where that canal goes. if suppose you live on the east side of a dam if there is one. then i dont know how the fish can thrive.

I live near a lake with a connection(Snake Creek Canal) to Maule Lake/Oleta River .This lake has bass and other freshwater fish and also Snook and Crevalle Jacks (big ones !)and Alligators .So long there is a connection to the ICW there will be Jacks and Snooks too .

There have been scattered reports of Jacks caught in freshwater for years. My friends father nailed one in Lake Okeechobee some time ago.

I have caught them at Orange and Nobhill up to 20 lbs and seen far bigger ones. That spot is about 10 miles west of the nearest spillway, loads of snook and tarpon there as well. Jacks are well known as a brackish water fish so freshwater doesn't shock me.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Lots of Jacks and other stuff, Snook, Tarpon, Peacock bass.. in the fresh water lakes at Miaim Airport, Blue Lagoon.. it runs down to the Tamiami canal, but used to connect to the Miami river up near 36th street, long ago when I was a kid.

They venture far far upstream actually and can tolerate fresh water perfectly... So can snapper. Catch em up!

Ive caught a few good ones in the airport lakes, Biggest one i caught was about 6 pounds and put up one heck of a fight, I caught it on a BPS twitch bait, and it broke it during the fight but still landed it.

Saw a school of 25 or so in Naranja lakes today. Up to 6 pounds. You could smell the saltwater on em as they stirred up the water. Big jacks, wish I had live bait.

Don't need live bait to catch a jack-- they'll hit topwaters, spoons, jigs, etc.
