It is a big state I'd help narrow your seach for a fishing partner by listing the general area you fish.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I know CEDAR KEY pier has awesome black drum action around this time. Its 45 minutes west of Gainesville, FL. Its a small town on the water, looks like a mini mini mini mini key west.
I'd be a bum if it meant that I could fish everyday for the rest of my life !!! *FORMALLY saltlife87*

Not sure the general location you are fishing but as a rule I avoid braid around pilings.

Those little bridges leading into ck looked reel good the last time i was there. so many places to get fiddlers i bet the sheephead would be there too. One of the dings in my truck came from there on a 4th of july a few years ago while parking by the inside boat ramp.

Re: monsters of the pylons
I never had any real luck on the little bridges to tell you the truth, I was always catching something at the pier though. I did hear there was some monster redfish around the little bridges leading into cedar key. I used to live in Gainesville so I used to fish there a lot. I miss Gainesville. If I could take the florida keys and Gainesville and put them together, it would be living there right now.

if I may ask, its a little off topic but what does freaking IMO mean??? I see it pop up eveywherejettypark28 wrote:Maybe i'm in that small group that believe when someone is new to a forum the
worst thing to do is ask for spots![]()
Nobody imo is going to give you any direct spots to go, well not their spots... and you
have to understand that we also have lurkers (open forum)
Also as shorebound fishermen our spots are really limited (to a point) in certain areas
the one bright side you have is that not many people like fishing for big black drums
You really can't eat them/ the fight is like dragging a rock in fact big rays run better
then big black drums...IMHO.... hell even big nurse fight better![]()
eating a big black is eating leather ...
If you are chasing a big pull then go after sharks, they are alot easier to target imo..
but if you still want to chase drums... (Eastern coast) go to any of the bridges on ICW
look for the bridges with the channels closer to shoreline and pilings next to them
Go to Bing maps or google earth and you will be able to narrow down a few bridges
Some of the locals still tackle those big blacks... they are easy to spot.. big setup
soaking bait under the bridges...
I did yrs ago late at nite while we were shrimping.... it was an easy way to pass the
time.. oh remember its a waiting game... a long one at times
take different setups that way while you are soaking bait, you can also fish for other
things
There's no such thing as too much bait!!
