Am sure you have seen the articles in the PB Post & the news reports already.

Debated about heading out last night, but the Skags convinced me otherwise. When I met up with him, he had already been broken off three times. Had brought a bucket of small jacks with me (cut bait), but I really didn't bother to try for bluefish. Seems that the bite shut off or something after I got there, until

That fish was not a happy camper- gave at least seven jumps right in surf breaks until we got it in

Then it shut off again. Got late so I took a jack head, crushed it good then threw it back out for a bit. Rod goes off- a good run straight east- saw it jump out a ways, then it let go, so we packed it up. Sorry for the fuzzy pictures.

Go get em!

02-08-07 report

Post by EFC fishing »

(photos were on a Kodak disposable camera so I waited to post this)

We went out again the next night- within minutes, one of my brothers, Chris, got one on- didnt even get my stuff setup yet & was trying to find the digital in the dark so I ran over with the backup Kodak- got an action shot
Image
small blacktip- he was pretty happy-

So we figured it was going to be on fire that night after that. He got three more runs, two break offs throughout the evening but it was hard to believe that, after seeing the reports on TV before heading out, it wasn't happening.

setup

Post by EFC fishing »

He has this spinning setup: 10' SilStar rod, Penn 7500 with 25 lb Ande clear. Leaders are just heavy fishfinder type- mostly what we use for big bluefish: leader 2ft or so of 90 lb black coated cable (or sometimes a half & half what we call it- half of the cable, half 100 lb Ande clear) with a weight (most of the time pyramid or bank, depending on conditions) that slides between two beads for half the length, Eagle Claw 254F-7/0, or Tru Turn O Shaugnessy 7/0 or Mustad 7/0 (filed). But he modifies the rig to where the weight is on the bottom & an additional leader/hook slides half the length  But I guess he doesn't do too bad with that--- yeah he likes the longer & sporty fight, though I let him know that it also tires the fish out & that getting it back swimming again quick is a better option.
