Rod for my Saltist 40
A few people have told me to get like a 9 ft rod. I went to Bassproshop.com and cant find a dang 30-60lb test conventional rod that is over 7 foot...What do yall suggest? I will use it for the pier and want to put 60-65lb braid on it so I can have 400 yards or so for medium size sharks..My budget is a bit below Bolo and Phish by about 300 greenbacks...What can I get and where in the 100-150.00 range??
All my best

Look for a Star Delux. Will match up well to that Saltist and in your budget, Bass Pro usually doesn't have the 9 footers but find a dealer near you here...http://www.seastriker.com/stardealers/

Look for a Star Rod Deluxe 35. Find you a good rod builder that does butt extension. Problem solve.

The problem is it is an 8 ft rod. If you want to make it 9' you will have to find someone to put the butt extension on. There aren't many quality 9' manufactured bridge/pier rods out there. 8 ft is still much better then 7 though.

Call Boomerang and get a price for a custom rod. They are located in Port St. Lucie. Shipping should not be much. Tell them you want a 9' rod and what class line you are planning to fish. To them you are using it for the pier. Make sure the rod but is about 20" in length. You can have it longer if you wish but do not know how tall you are. My bridge rods butt are about 22"-24" in length and 20" for my boat rods.

I'm 5'9" and 145lbs soaking wet. I was undefeated in the boxing ring in highschool though. Got the dvd to prove it. How do I get in touch with boomerang bolo ?

Yep, give them a call, but I'm pretty sure anything they quote you will be out of your budget. Maybe talk to PermitChaser on the forum and see if he can build you something simple on a Gator T90XH, it is a pretty inexpensive but quality blank.

Re: Rod for my Saltist 40
A few years back Luis or Mike on Anglins pier had a 9 foot star rod that they purchased from Competition Tackle. Im almost positive it was a 9 foot model from the factory with around a 24 inch butt.
Sorry, I just checked the delux and handcrafted from star rods and there is no such model listed though? Maybe it was discontinued...

Re: Rod for my Saltist 40
I had 2 Star Rods made with a butt extension. One PP has and Nick123 has the other unless he had sold it.

Re: Rod for my Saltist 40
I wouldn't reccomend anything less then 8 ft. You should still be able to get plenty of casting distance with 8 ft. I would get it, and if you decide you want the butt extension down the road, you can find someone to do it later. I know you said there are no rod shops in South Georgia, but check with the tackle shops where you fish in Florida and ask around, they probably can help you out.
