Spehros 5000fb or 8000fb

Post by theprofessor2009 »

Trying to decide which one to buy. Both are the same weight. Pairing it with a Tiger Stick Lite 6' 9" Med Action .5-3 oz lure weight. Any suggestions? Thanks.

8000 with 12 or 15 lb mono final answer. I used mine to land countless snook, tarpon, jacks, snapper , etc. Great overall middle class spinner.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Thanks for the quick response. I was leaning towards the 8000. You don't think it would be too big for the rod I want to match it with?

Mine is mounted on a medium action 7 ft rod with about the same weight specs. If the rod will handle 3 oz why put a reel with 8 - 10 lb mono on it ? With 15 lb mono I cast 1/4 oz troll rites with live shrimp no problem. I can also switch to a 1 oz plug or 2 oz spoon for bluefish and such. From 10 inch mangroves to 40 inch snook you are covered and not to undergunned in 9o % of your fights.
