Bluefin Tuna Will Not be Listed as Endangered Under CITES

Post by onshore »

The O'Bama administration backed move to list Bluefin as endangered under CITES went down to a tremendous defeat yesterday in Katar. A motion to reconsider went down with even more votes against.

So, Bluefin will be managed in accordance with the reduced quotas and regs promulgated by ICCAT earlier this year. That is where many of us felt the management should be anyway. ICCAT has a horrible record of conserving tuna in the past but, they did come up with significant quota reductions at their lasts meeting.

So, It's ICCAT's quotas and regs for the next two years. They probably have a chance reverse the downward trend of the stocks but, only if enforcement is severe.

Try the CITES web site at: http://darwin.eeb.uconn.edu/uncommon-gr ... cites.html

You may find it but, you may have to send them an email to get the exact wording of the motion to "list" Bluefin Tuna by Monaco
