new yak owner
just recently purchased a ocean kayak scrambler for my fishing desires...im gonna go out to key biscayne this weekend in hopes of getting the hang of it before i paddle away with rods ready to fish...also,since my fishing buds dont share the same intrest in kayak fishing as i do,i was wondering if there are any group of people here that i can set/join in on trips so i dont go alone all the time (great way to learn more)

ricky9 Congrats - !!!
And welcome to your newest addiction !!! Lots of questions you will have about setting it up to fish, hat to buy vs make etc.....ask away and check out those liks. As Krash said, there are many knowledgeable folks about that have been doin this a while! Best advive is paddle and fish it a bit before drilling any holes....Balancing in the garage and reaching behind you and doing it in the Ocean are a lil different.
Me, I usually wait till the summer seas lie down to go too offshore, but if ya catch it right,Score ya will !!!
Here's my Sleigh.

Small Cero off Pompano Pier

Bonito that almost taught me about how to set yer drag right the hard way off Lake Worth Pier..

You re looking for a couple things in a beach launce 1 - Parking close by - helps 'specially when ya gotta drag it back in aftre paddling all day -ricky9 wrote:everybody thanks for the links and info, much appreciated
and cookinman are there certain beaches that serve as a better launching place then others?...i also figured the summer time would be more ideal, but if i can catch the sea's on a good day i wanted to try it out now
2 - No lifegaurds - Goin out before 9 is no prob - but unless you are staying out past 6, they get all bent up about landing on their beaches....would not advise.
3 - Good fishing.....
That being said in Broward, on either sideof pompano pier on the unmanned beaches are good launches....I just troll the second and third reefline. I have heard the humps S of the pier are good also.
I have yet to launch in Lauderdale, but imagine the reefs will be just as productive.
For Deeper water and Bigger fish by far, you could always try Lake Worth Pier ....Gulf Streem dips in a bit and the water drops off FAST - It is possible to be in 220; in under 2 miles out in some spots.....I recommend going in a group on that one unless you are an exceptional swimmer ....also do not forget rod leashes - That is along way down and good gear is $$$$.
Another good idea is to go out with no gear, sit onthe sandbar break and flounder untill you roll a few times, it will give you an isea on where your yaks limits are both broadside and head on.....THEN, go do a few Deep water ( just over your head) Re-Entry's so you know how to do so in the event you capsize out deep ( bring a pal for this one )
There are good launch sites at John Lloyd in Hollywood as well.
Seekout BUGDOC on the FS site - He has a link to some really good launches in his signature. He also goes by RDS on ftlauderdaleyakfishing.com.....same sig.
EDIT : Found it !

Choko
It takes less time to get to Choko than Flamingo from Margate, or so it seems! I'd probably be up for a trip to the 10,000 Island, maybe make it a week-end event. Name the time, as long as it doesn't conflict with the Derelict week-end, Feb. 8-11 or my annual trip to Sebring March 15 to whenever I recover
