On fish but better than work..
I took off work and I took my skiff I just got (used) for the first time out yesterday. I fished the mangroves between Port Everglades and Dania Beach Blvd. across from John u. Lloyd park and came up blank. Does anyone know what you can catch there? I was using sand fleas from Dania bait store the same day. And shrimp, silver slides from the freezer a month ago. I was getting little nibbles, something was taking my bait. Tugging on it and it was gone, just couldn't hook anything. I used small hooks and medium hooks, just couldn't hook anything. Any info will help.

Lots of small snapper there as well as some jacks and tarpon at times. Better off fishing night time in that area esp around the lighted docks and bridges for some snook and tarpon. Try floating live shrimp back with the current under the bridges or around the docks or put a popping cork on if the current isn't to bad.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Interesting, I bought that boat so I could catch some decent sized fish to eat. When you say small snapper you mean less than legal I assume? I need some advice, it is a 14" carolina skiff, I know I won't go pass ICW on it, so where can I fish for some decent size take home fish in my confines?

I really wouldn't eat anything out of the ICW due to pollution . If you fish around the turning basin ie by the inside of the port you should be able to get some mackeral, jacks, snook, tarpon, and some keeper size mangroves as well. Try drifting along with a 1/4 or 3/8 oz jighead with a live shrimp on it for all of the above.

oh well, I thought if it was close to the opening to the ocean it would be safe. But since you said that, I am not going to eat anything I catch. I wanted to catch crabs but I guess not also LOL Anywhere else I can go for a nice catch. Thank you for you insight by the way.

That area is puffer city. Go up around the coast guard station and fish the sea wall if the inlet is calm, fish the point at the cutoff canal, or do as FF says and fish the docks and bridges floating back baits in the current.

All the guys above are right on the money. I have pulled a few legal lanes out of there and some grunts but thats the average catch. Sometimes a school of macks will run by not very often. Pm me I got a little spot a few miles south.

well I got a 15hp on it. Looking for a 25hp and plan on getting a 5hp or less kicker and putting a bow mount trolling on the front.
