Has anyone ever cooked parrot fish? Are they edible? I toss em back, but I see others tossing them in the bucket along with those nasty looking lizard fish.

Everything is ''edible'' I know that a lot of islanders eat them and call them Bahamian snapper. I think that they are to neat looking of a fish and play to vital a role in the ecosystem to kill one though. They may also be highly capable of carrying cigutera ( sp)

I've heard they are good, similar to hogfish. BUT, they also are known for being a high risk of ciguatera. I always let them go, wouldn't risk it.

Delicious. But only eat the ones that are smaller than the size of a dinner plate (minus the head) due to ciguatera poisoning.

Like FishnFool says, they are critical to the health of the reef, being one of the maintenance fish. Just throw it back, not everything that comes out of the water needs to be eaten.

Yum, tarpon croquettes. Add some grunt minutas and you have the Rickenbacker Extra Value Meal.

Did the bonefish taste bad? I would try it in the Bahamas, there are tons of bonefish there, many many more then there are in the Keys. Most of them are much smaller then the ones we have though. Bonefish are one of the best trolling baits for marlin.

it wasn't really the taste that was bad...it's the number of bones I had to get through to eat it
